Not to mention the fact that as CURRENT champion he should be offered the opportunity to defend his title. Oh no. Now you're going to have him on about Oxford and the Craven Shield. In which case for ONCE Genghis would be right

Now. now, young Hatcham, no need for name-calling just because you're losing the argument.

But does he (the global superstar) want to defend his national title? In this week's Speedway Star he doesn't seem especially bothered about it, saying "I'm not undermining the British final, but if it means I don't do it to try and achieve bigger things, that's a gamble I'm prepared to take." Now, I think we all realise that the serial failure's words should be taken with a pinch of salt after his comments following the British final in 2006, but on the face of it, he doesn't seem to care too much.

The word pride springs to mind Sub, it may sound a strange word to associate with Nicholls considering his GP and general excuse history, but in Britain his elite league and British championship in particular records are exemplary, and it may just be possible that he is once again trying to save face.

I don't think I will change my mind over this one. The British Final is a domestic meeting and should therefore only be available to British-based competitors. Is it a pity that the British Final will be taking next season without the reigning champion? Of course it is. But Nicholls has made his choice and is fully aware of the implications of that decision. Personally, I think he's been bloody stupid.

No, you assumed correctly Erik.......the BSPA stage the British Final under the banner of 'Super Seven'. Yes, which are the Elite League / Premier League shared events,(and Nicholls will ride in neither league), which is want I said in the first place. Do try to paid attention Kev Genghis, I was merely pointing out to Erik that his assumption was correct, and that post wasn't directed at your post in any way. For the record I believe Nicholls should get the same sanctions that Peter Collins received back in the '80's, in the interests of consistency.

Seen Andy Smith's name mentioned on the BSF - now here's a rider who was not riding in Britain for a number of years. Did he ride in the British Championship during that time ?
Just wondering if a more recent precedent has been set than Peter Collins.

Rico, I think you're mistaken, while Andy Smith was forced to chop & change teams by the points limit and sometimes missed a month at the start of the season, I don't think he sat out any complete seasons.
Simon Wigg & Marvyn Cox would be better examples - and I don't think they got to ride in the British Final.

My memory must be playing tricks on me - I could have sworn Smudger rode a season in the GPs and in Poland (and maybe other leagues) but not in the Elite League. And those riders you mention Rob swapped their ACU licences for Dutch/German licences didn't they ? Rico

Didn't Andy Smith end up Polish and still riding in the British Final?

Didn't Andy Smith end up Polish and still riding in the British Final? Smith definately rode on a Polish licence, but not sure if he rode in a British Final during that time. Smith's career has spanned 1982-2006 in the UK, and the only year he didn't feature in the BL during that period was 2002, so I guess '02 is the year Rico is remembering.
