Thank God you turned up Subedei. I thought Kev and I were going to get beaten up. Good job I had my Coventry board with me, he probably would have strangled me with my scarf if I'd worn it. Hope you're chilled out now Kev, it's only a game Next time you have a moan about starting marshalls Kev, keep it to yourself

And I wonder what they'd have said about my Ht 6 comments, which were, "typical Nicholls, bullying lesser riders like Kling." Anyway, start marshalls are there to be moaned about, since generally they seem to have given up any pretense of being impartial.

And, believe it or not chums, I was there, for what was, Jonsson and Kling excepted, a rather shameful performance from the Hammers. Just one second place all night (Jonsson on the T/R) and not one single bonus point (Coventry managed twelve) tell the story. Anyway, my take on the riders:
Coventry
S Nicholls: Usual story for the former British champion, with him being ruthlessly exposed when up against top drawer opposition - Jonsson and he raced three times and he was second on everyone of them. R Schlein: Gates and wins, doesn't gate and looks compltely lost - hasn't a clue what to do when he's behind. M Smolinski: The poor quality opposition made him look much better than he truly is - but he was super last night. C Harris: Did his job, but nothing to go overboard about. B Janniro: Seems to be fiddling his average for 2008 by scoring as many bonus points as he can (bonus points are, of course, discounted in the team building average) - he scored five last night. I have a real problem with riders such as Janniro (and Johnston) being allowed the easy option of dropping to reserve. But those are the rules and Janniro is making hay while the sun shines. S Johnston: Like Janniro and Smolinski, the poor opposition made him look far better than he truly is - but Johnno is a decent fellow and few would begrudge him scores like last night. Again, however, I don't believe riders such as Johnston should be allowed to be reserves.
Lakeside:
A Jonsson: superb and only lost out to the fast-starting Schlein - spanked the former British champion on each occasion they met. K Kasprzak: shameful performance, but I'd still have had him in Ht 15 over Shields, especially after the results of Hts 12 and 13 - poor management from Jon Cook, in my view. L Lanham: only picked up points because of Kasprzak's engine woes, but at least he tried and had an engine that lasted four laps every time it took to the track. A Shields: Very poor start, woke up for a couple of Hts on the bounce (8 and 9) and then drifted back to sleep - very poor. R Kling: tried his little heart out and put up a brave showing - he is totally absolved of responsibility for this poor showing. L Tomicek: he tried as well, but never looked like getting among the points.
A routine win for Coventry and a poor showing from Lakeside in a largely dull meeting, although Ht 15 was a decent enough race, I suppose.

That's nothing to what I was being subjected to Would have felt safer with a Gers supporter at Parkhead in the Celtic end

Where were you stood Braveheart? In the Grandstand. I have a bruised kneecap now as the girl in front of me kept moving about in her seat, but I didn't moan

Typical, isn't it? Men sticking together. Maybe its because I am Braveheart why we weren't beaten up. Just remind me, both of you, what you said about Roo Boy. Maybe Midnight Lady would like to know.

I believe I have stated my opinion on Schlein in a post above: "R Schlein: Gates and wins, doesn't gate and looks completely lost - hasn't a clue what to do when he's behind."She lets paulco get away with calling him "Poo Boy", so I reckon we should be safe.
