It appears the mentor of Russian prodigy Emil Sajfutdinov has ruled out the chances of the double Under-21 world champion appearing in the Elite League next season. He says that if Sajfutdinov gets a place in the GPs he'll probably only be racing in the Polish and Russian leagues, but if he's overlooked for the GPs then the Swedish league also comes into play, but that Britain isn't on the agenda: www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2008/10/17/tomasz-suskiewicz-emil-na-pewno-zostanie-w-bydgoszczy/

Obviously Emil apparently now has himself a place in the SGP and, as you mentioned, he intends to rule himself out of Sweden because of this, choosing to race the league in Denmark instead (I'll leave it up to the reader to decide why he chose to sign for Ole's Vojens team rather than racing in the Swedish League!)
However, in an interview I read recently, Emil said that he wanted to race in the UK if he got a GP place. Admittedly, he said that he wanted to race 12 meetings at the start of the season, but he definitely said he wanted to race here.
The simple explanation was that the UK leagues start early, so he can get lots of practice in before the early GPs.
The most interesting thing that was in the interview was the fact that he has been invited to test both a 250cc and 600cc road bike in Barcelona this winter. There are people who want him to move across to go for MotoGP as Russia don't have anyone in the series at the moment, and they believe that Emil has the skills to make it in that type of racing.
He stated that he was definitely 100% committed to speedway for 2009, but after that he would look at his options more carefully.
IMHO, it would be a disaster if one so talented walked away from our sport now!

His choice to walk away, as he doesnt ride over here, cant say many will miss him in the UK.

Let's hope we don't go down the 6 meetings at the start of the season shenanigans again , good that he no doubt is, even TRick wasn't worth all the whoo haa involved when all he was doing was testing bikes.

Well Masarna have now filed for bankruptcy, so if he was one of the riders owed money it's unlikely he'll get it, and he'd have had to have looked for a new team anyway - not that I expect him to be short of offers. But I don't think we'll see much of him in Denmark, being an A grader the same as Bjerre.

Actually, just looking at the calendar for next year, and the U21 world championship meetings are all on the same day as the GPs. If he is given a nomination, will they change the dates for him, or will he have to make a decision?

Emil stated in the interview that he had signed to race in 7 matches in Denmark. I think their season consists of 16 matches, so it's not a massive commitment, but basically the same as he did in Sweden this year.
He also claimed that he had 5 offers from teams in Sweden, 4 in Britain and 4 in Poland. The Swedish and British clubs weren't named but he named Leszno, Torun and Gdansk as the clubs that made offers as well as Bydgoszcz.
As for the WU21 dates. Three of the four qualifiers he could go in are not on GP dates, Mseno, Krsko and Rye House all on the 17th of May, and the Miskolc Semi Final is not on a GP weekend either, being the 21st of June. The final is also not a GP weekend, being the 4th of October....So it doesn't seem like a problem for him.
That is, of course, if he would be bothered to race the U21 championship if he is in the SGP.

I was going by the dates in the document published by the FIM this week. www.fim.ch/sec/documents/f_5937.pdfSpeedway dates on pages 9 and 10. It may be that they have already changed the dates just to avoid the very situation that you mentioned.

Yes, it looks like they have. Thanks - I've updated the calendar.

The Swedish and British clubs weren't named but he named Leszno, Torun and Gdansk as the clubs that made offers as well as Bydgoszcz. Poole, Swindon, Lakeside and Wolverhampton. Wolves tried to bring him in for August 1st this year, but too many dates clashed so that was thrown out. Swindon wanted him in for the play-offs and Lakeside to cover for the many injuries at the end of the season. Poole had talked about 2009 with a good deal, but riding in the GP Series would make him an 8.00 rider and Poole would not be able to fit him in away. Never say never to Emil riding in England, but a GP place would make it near impossible unless it was a one night a week league in the Elite League as it is in Poland and Sweden.
