Or grave robbing if the rumours on BSF about a Southern based EL promoter putting in an application to run the New Years Classic 3 days after Tim Stone passed away are true!

Got the feeling it was more good news, or a change in promotion, but Matt's recently become sole promoter, hasn't he?

Wouldn't an out of season meeting at Poole be classed as good news though? Second thoughts, yeah, maybe you're right Schumi

I guess I picked up on the "talking about it through the winter" comment. Makes it sound like it'll be in a positive way rather than a negative.

I thought he probably tried to sign Tai Woffenden, and had his thunder stolen by Wolves announcing it instead. I mean we all know that ALL riders want to be a Pirate Probably making Steve Shovlar official Press Officer ;D

The way I heard it, this Roger Young bloke was going to run it but had asked Mark & Wellie to obtain the licence for the meeting for him as current members of the BSPA.
Reading a comment from a well connected Newport fan on BSF it seems the application was submitted and only then was it discovered that Ford had got his application in before Tim Stone was even cold!

Application went in after Tim Stone's death, but before his funeral.
That's why nobody else applied for it, Shovlar.
Morals of an ally cat down Dorset way.

But someone else did apply to run it!
Can't find the post on BSF now, but there was one somewhere from someone stating that they had spoken to Malcolm Holloway at Swindon on Sunday who confirmed that he had recently put in an application to run the NYC, only to be told at that point that another application had already been submitted and by the sounds of it had already been accepted too.
With no Brighton running this year it's been suggested that Roger Young/Mark Legg/Malcolm Holloway piss on Fords fireworks & apply to run a meeting between Christmas & New Year. Oh how I'd laugh if that did come off. ;D

Poole sent in the application in July. But that date is imaterial as other promotions could also submit until the 30th September. But none of them bothered and as Poole were the only promotion to bother, they got the meeting. A few dickheads from newport are giving it large and basically making up crap about Stone still being warm in his grave etc to basically incite.

Steve that's a bit harsh on the Newport fans. Try looking at things from something other than a Poole perspective. Last week it was reported in the speedway star that Roger Young is all set to take over the promotion at Newport once probate has been finalised. Which we're led to believe will be very soon. The report also stated that he had asked Mark Legg & Malcolm Holloway to apply for a licence to run the NYC in January with the full backing of Tim Stone's step father. It was then reported on BSF that someone had spoken to Malcolm Holloway on Sunday who confirmed he had applied to the BSPA on Roger Youngs behalf for the licence and only then found out that Poole had also applied & by all account been granted the licence. Now I don't know when Wellie made his application but would imagine if there was a deadline then it was within it. I will try to find this out on Sunday. Newport fans after a difficult few months saw a bit of light at the end of the tunnel & were looking forward to the continued staging of a now traditional out of season meeting, which to be fair, yes Tim Stone did take a gamble on and had built up from scratch turning into one of the major off season meetings. Quite rightly the Newport supporters who have been starved of speedway in South Wales since late spring feel like they've had the rug pulled form under them and are having their noses rubbed in it by some of yours and others comments. The profits from the NYC went along way to keeping Newport afloat thoughout the season under Tim Stone's regime & I would imagine would have gone along way to helping a new promoter to hit the ground running too. They are quite within their rights to feel pissed off about the situation without being branded dick heads!!

A few dickheads from newport are giving it large and basically making up crap about Stone still being warm in his grave etc to basically incite. You really are something else, aren't you? You crawl up your promoters arse and believe everything he tells you. You may statements on his behalf and you aren't even officially connected to the club. He's just making a fool of you to get you to do all his dirty work. A tender for the NYC has never gone out from the BSPA at any time in the past, but what has happened here is that Ford took advantage of Newport's situation and put in a proposal to host the meeting 3 days after Tim died. Nobody else dared take up the chance of hosting this meeting, because nobody else had the sheer indignity to host it considering Newport's sad situation. A new owner and promoter is being put in place at Newport and he has stated he'd like to run the NYC at it's rightful home. Of course he didn't start making arrangments to host it as up until the past couple of weeks he wasn't in a position to do so. In the meantime Ford had picked a dead man's pockets and done what he did to his advantage. No this rant and displeasure of the situation from me hasn't come from being jealous of Poole's success. I like Poole, it is a well run club with a good set of people behind the scenes and an excellent promoter. The reason people hate Poole is because of people like yourself. YOU are giving your club a bad name and it's about time someone put you in you place.
