Meeting hardly has what you'd call a glittering EL line up, but I do get the feeling that this will be quite an entertaining meeting, shame there's no Simota or Buck riding though.
Good to see Denny being remembered at the club in the 25th anniversary year of his death, and nice touch that we got a yank coming over to ride in the meeting too.
SMALLMEAD Stadium hosts its final speedway action of the season on Monday 22 October, with a meeting dedicated to the memory of Denny Pyeatt, who, regrettably, lost his life twenty-five years ago, following a track crash whilst representing the Racers in a meeting at Hackney.
The meeting is kindly sponsored by Ideal Video. Bob Simmons, the company’s founder and Managing Director, has been a great friend to Reading Speedway for many seasons; indeed, the company has been team partners of the club in both 2006 and 2007, whilst they were headline sponsor in 2005. As well as backing the Racers, they also sponsor Chris Schramm, who is a firm favourite with the fans at Smallmead.
The meeting climax will see the top four riders from the qualifying races compete in a Grand Final to decide the destination of the trophy. There will also be a top prize of £1000, with Profile Shopfitting Ltd kindly putting up the big cash prize for the victorious rider.
Promoter Malcolm Holloway has assembled an interesting sixteen-rider field for the twenty-heat event and clearly, once again, has the future of the club in mind. He explained: "There will be several riders on show that interest me. I am always looking to the future of the Racers and this will give them all an opportunity to showcase their talents.
"I’m pleased to be staging this meeting, having had it postponed on 2 July and then having had to re-schedule it to accommodate the re-run of the Knock-Out Cup semi-final versus Swindon. Denny was a popular member of the Reading side in 1981 and 1982, and it was a tragedy that he lost his life when aged just twenty-four."
Admission prices for Monday’s gala meeting are as per normal: Adults £15, Concessions £10 and Children (Under 15 years) £5, whilst Kids (Under 11 years) pay just £1 if accompanied by a paying adult.
