Not been the best of years for Matej Zagar, has it? He's messed around his British club Reading and his Swedish club Kaparna, while his performances for Polish club Torun have hardly set the Ekstraliga on fire. Likewise, his performances in the GPs have been very poor and it looks like costing him his place in the circus. Zagar seems very unlikely to get a nomination for 2008: his nationality is wrong and his performances hardly make a powerful case for his inclusion. The only possible justification would be giving him a second chance after he qualified for 2007. But that seems very unlikely. So, what does the future hold for Zagar? To me, he's always appeared to be "too big for his boots" and that could be another problem, since surely he has to mend some of the fences he so carelessly tore down this season.

Fair enough. I guess there're some bridges that can't be re-built and that could be a problem for young Zagar, who doesn't appear to have the bridge building skill of Carillion.

My bet is he'll end up at P'bor if they stay EL. They never finish their full quota of meetings per season either so he'll fit in well up there.

Reports from Reading tonight suggest that Zagar wanted to return to the team for the rest of the season, but Wellie declined his kind offer. It seems Reading only want riders who want to ride for them........... in next years' Elite League!! Good news on both counts in my view!!!

Not quite what was said Kev.
Wellie was interviewed, said he'd had a call from Zagar last Monday telling him he'd crashed in Poland the day before & wouldn't be able to ride tonight because of concussion etc. Wellie told Zagar to get his certificate into the BSPA and set about finding a guest.
Wellie checked with someone in Poland who confirmed Zagar had a big off the day before there, and that was the last Wellie heard until he switched on the GP Saturday night.
He's been told that Zagar wants to ride for Reading next season, but said he will ensure in 2008 that the riders who line up for the Racers are committed to the team. Went on to say that Zagar had let himself, the promotion, his team mates and the paying public down, and basically said it's not fair on the public to turn up at meetings like tonight to find 4 riders who should be riding are missing for one reason or another.
Sounds as if the plan is EL for 2008 with Mark & Wellie at the helm again, but the pair of them look just about done in at the moment.

He's been told that Zagar wants to ride for Reading next season. I'll bet he does. Hardly flavour of the month in Poland or Sweden and about to be defenestrated from the GPs, his options aren't brilliant.

Might sound a bit negative from me, but why wasn't the Reading manager checking everyday on the progress of his rider, instead of finding out what happened a week later when he switched on his telly?

Zagar's only planned appearance for Reading before the end of the season was tonight. He was due to miss the weekend visit to Eastie due to a national championship round back home.
He'd told Wellie a week ago that he wouldn't be fit to ride tonight after his crash in Poland, no real reason to contact Zagar in the past week. His season with the Racers ended last Monday.
Think Wellie was wise not to waste his time following up on a rider who's shown no regard or respect to him or his fellow promoter recently.

Good rider yes, but shame about the attitude. Always thought that when he was in the PL.

What makes no sense DK?
Both Reading promotions have wasted enough time chasing up Zagar this season and trying to find guests for him at the last minute when he's pulled out of meetings. Why carry on flogging a dead horse?
If a rider tells you he's not fit to ride in a meeting in 7 days time and has a doc's certificate, there's not a lot you can do about that, and you certainly shouldn't expect to turn on the tv a few days later to see the same rider lining up in an individual meeting.

And it seems that the "Mad Wellie" has confirmed to BBC Berkshire tonight that all the current Racers are welcome at Smallmead next season, except for Prince Matej.

Stong words from Wellie, but does Zagar care? Does he fuck!! He's done a deal to ride for Oblivion Owls next year, and has promised not to miss a meeting for them.
