Dick Head was his name i think Wackie. Your obviously too young to remember him as well then FP. We'll have to rely on Rigsby for the history lesson. The late, great Dick Emery. Sorry it wasn't Rigsby....

How about Allen Trump for dropping Mildy in the shit & possibly being careless & wreckless in his quest to get baby barker to Coventry on Monday afternoon.

You reckon? So there was no rush to get Barker to Coventry, it was a nice leisurely drive taken well within the national speed limits.
The more I think about it, the more I don't agree with the whole situation. Forget the blatant time delaying tactics employed by the Bees with Auty, every team has bent the rules somewhere along the line to suit themselves.
Barker was in no fit state to race when he arrived at Brandon, he was literally dragged from Trumps car, half dressed by others & thrown out onto the track on an unfamiliar bike.
Was he focused? Didn't look like it to me, knowing the lenghs Coventry had gone to to get him at the meeting could have added more pressure to him as well. Imo those actions to drag him out onto track as quickly as possible could have jepodised more than normal the safety of the other 3 riders lining up at the tapes for heat 2.

Whilst I agree that he was in no fit state to take his first ride I think that he and Allen Trump should be commended for trying their hardest to get him there for the meeting (which was originally scheduled for 6pm I think). What was the alternative? I was at Rye House - they made the announcement that he had left the building just before 3.30 ( I'm guessing he had left 5 - 10 mins before that. I don't know). And he got to Coventry at around 4.50pm. An hour and a half - which is about right.

Wacks - I find Ben Barker should be commended for taking this on. It's nice to see a British youngster with ambition.

What was the alternative? Book another rider who wasn't already racing somewhere else for their 1st team on the same day. 96 miles from Rye to Brandon in 90 minutes is about right if your driving very fast on the M1!

I've not said he shouldn't have been commended Genghis, you slipping back into old ways & reading things into posts which aren't there? What I'm saying is Barker shouldn't have been rushed out for heat 2 within minutes of arriving at the stadium. That could have put him & the other riders in the race at greater risk. He was in no fit state, mentally at least to ride in that race.

In contrast, Ben had just had a pleasant drive from Hoddesdon to Brandon. Who's the better mentally prepared?

Come off it Genghis, are you honestly telling me that Barker looked focused & ready to race on Monday when he arrived at the stadium? Riders who fall off are checked by the paramedic before being allowed to race again. He wasn't mentally prepared - his head was all over the place, he'd been whisked from Hertfordshire to Coventry probably with updates along the way as to how long he had before his first heat - no pressure. Pleasant drive as well my arse. When has the M1 ever been pleasant. Don't get so uppity anyway Ghengis, I'm not slagging one of Oxfords little glory boys here. It's the Coventry promotion I feel are at fault for putting him in that situation to begin with.

I'd love to know how the pair of them got past the 50mph restrictions at the junctions around Luton.....

They can't have done so as there are average speed cameras right the way through those roadworks. Which, in turn, means that Trump must have driven at ever more ludicrous speeds once they were through that section. Wacks - for what it's worth, I'm with you on this. There's little I hate more than being cut up by arrogant pillocks in BMW's who, quite frankly, are driving like lunatics and as a result putting my life, their passengers lives, and every other road user in the vicinity's life in jeopardy. Trump MUST have fitted into this category on Monday, there's no getting away from it no matter what excuses certain people want to make for him. I

I I'm afraid not, young witch - he was driving a Mercedes (an altogether better car than a BMW).
