Well then, all parties involved should have just been up-front about it instead of subjecting us all to a load of spin. Couldn't agree more, and something I said during the Horton saga. The trouble is, when it takes so long to issue a statement that's so simple it's hard to know whether to believe it or not. Is that cynical?

Just shows what a very poor organisation BSI was and just as clearly how they simply abandoned Reading to its fate. Incidentally, has anyone seen or heard from John Postlethwaite since his Bulldogs went belly up? Only interested when he's likely to get praise: as soon as tough questions come up he vanishes as quickly as British hopes did on Saturday.

The trouble is, when it takes so long to issue a statement that's so simple it's hard to know whether to believe it or not. Is that cynical? Well, there had been rumours going around for a while that Hancock was only contracted to Reading until the end of May. I can see why BSI would want to hush that up, but I can't see what the new Reading promotion or Hancock would have to gain by not saying that if it were indeed the case. As you say though, the 'clarification' has taken so long that one could easily wonder whether we're indeed hearing the whole truth now (which I suspect we're not).

Incidentally, has anyone seen or heard from John Postlethwaite since his Bulldogs went belly up? Doesn't appear in the list of senior management or key personnel on IMG's website, and a search doesn't reveal anything more than original press release announcing the acquisition of BSI. Given the current prominence of the previously invisible Paul Bellamy, one wonders whether JP has suffered the traditional Mongol treatment for failed leaders.

I think it's pretty certain now that Greg did only initially agree terms with BSI up to the end of May, I know Greg appeared for Reading away at Wolves in early June, but that could have just been a favour as he still appears to have some respect for Postlewhaite. Perhaps Greg going was the BIG announcement that they'd promised they'd make at the back end of April, which got superceeded when they decided they were going to take their ball back & go & play with IMG instead.
The compassionate leave info wasn't started as a rumour by Wellie & Mark, but seemed to stem from the BSPA - possibly with a bit of influence from the much rumoured silent partner now at Reading (give you a clue - he's orange).
There was a snippet of an interview with Greg on BBC Berkshire this morning. He stated his absence from Reading had nothing to do with the take over at Reading & the previous promotion were fully aware of the reasons behind it. He went on to defend JP with a few words about how he tried something different at Reading, blah, blah, blah. Full interview with Greg can be heard on Radio Berkshire Sports programme from 6pm on Friday. Will probably also be available online sometime over the weekend.
I think the crux of it all though is that Greg ain't coming back. Last rumour I heard was that an older Polish rider was being muted as a possible replacement. Personally as our season went tits up months ago anyway I think they should blood a new youngster & someone who will become a Reading asset.

Well, it'll keep henryw happy, if no one else. I'd go along with the consensus that Hancock only signed for a limited period. It explains why BSI went hell for leather to get as many fixtures out of the way as early as possible.

To my cynical mind, this is just another example of how little UK speedway thinks of it's followers, and clearly demonstrates that it's all about the promoters, the riders and the money.
Speedway here isn't a sport, it's a game; the object of the game is to extract as much cash as you can from the punters, then bail out before it starts costing you too much.........

Greg Hancock has spoken out to clear up some of the incorrect stories about his absence from British Speedway. Well then, all parties involved should have just been up-front about it instead of subjecting us all to a load of spin. Dead right - speedway has a knack of spinning a story when there is no need - in fact much of the speedway spin insults the supporters intelligence most of the time.

what has happened to hancock over the last three months?cardiff apart his gp form since poland has been disasterous, and in the last three he has scored a mere 14 points.as i rarely follow swedish and polish results,i would be interested to hear how he has fared over the same period. with only three gp's to go, greg has a healthy buffer in the race for a top eight place, but if his recent form was to continue,it is possible he could come up short. that would be interesting

I think his dip in form has something to do with the big bump he had courtesy of Kasprzak in Poland.
Seems to be riding for the sake of making a living with a second child on the way.

justice is the word your looking for. Well, I think you're closer to the truth than young harry. Hancock's paying the price for messing around, if you ask me. He thought life would be plain sailing once he got rid of the British scene, but complacency set in and he's been on a downward slope ever since.
