And also ends up with the Ultimate Gating Tart being crowned Scottish Open Champion. Schlein led the scorers from the opening twenty heats and looked a likely winner throughout. Belle Vue's Joe Screen was runner-up, with Swindon's Travis McGowan completing the podium. But the meeting suffered from a number of late changes to the line-up, with Thomas H Jonasson apparently stranded in Sweden (or possibly under strict orders to be in Poland on time on Sunday - will he be at Berwick tomorrow?), while David Howe and Billy Janniro were also absent.

Fucking pointless meeting ends up with concussion for Grievesy It's not a fucking pointless meeting. It's a meeting Edinburgh rely on financially. I am, sorry Grievesy got injured but that can happen in any meeting. It wasn't the best Scottish Open I have witnessed. It was great too see Rory Schlein back at the Dale and there is no doubt Rory was the deserving winner as he was head and shoulders above almost everyone else. It's a shame he and Ryan Fisher didn't get to have a ding dong battle as Ryan was well up for it tonight only to develop a sick motor in his last two races Travis McGowan went about his business in a quiet way but he was good to watch. I was also really impressed with the way Aaron Summers rode tonight especially against the big boys and Andrew Tully so deserved to be in the final

It wasn't the best Scottish Open I have witnessed. Quite an understatement there. It ended up being a complete non event with so many call offs and changes to the field....Then poor James gets injured and we are left with 5 races having only 3 riders. Obviously some absentees from the field couldn't be helped and were well publicised, but I felt completely cheated and deceived to be told AFTER handing over my £16 that Howe, Jonasson and Janniro weren't there. Anyone want to hunt the record books and see if there has ever been a lower quality line-up for a race in the Scottish Open than heat 5 last night?

We rely on the Silver Helmet a bit but it happens in September/October.

Well, I notice on the "Chatzone" that someone has written that Screen was third, which I presume means McGowan was second.

Marron......In the "old days", the Scottish Open was an end of season event, but the weather was so shitty this far north that it was moved to mid-season to avoid the crap weather of Scotland. This calendar move gave the Monarchs promotion a much better chance of encouraging the local fans to hand over an excessive quantity of their hard earned cash to watch a bunch of mediocre shit being ripped apart by the one or two worthy competitors that actually turned up. Sorry....does that sound bitter? Well....TBH, I hope it fuckin does, because 30+ hours later I still feel that I was completely fucked over by the Monarchs promotion who were happy to post online that the weather was good, but couldn't tell us that Billy, David and Tomas weren't going to be at the Dale.

Glad i went down the club . By all accounts it wasn't up there with classic Scottish Opens . On these big open meetings they should sell programmes with the centre piece blank , so you can mark in the field with who actually turns up instead of chopping and changing all night .
