Oh Eastbourne fans are great fun, you can wind them up so easily. Amazing that a few opposition fans, a war cry and a bit of shredded paper can have such an effect on them! ;D This is also true!! You left out the ultimate addition to the mix though - the away team winning!! ;D

I'm with witch on this one...typical Eatbourne behaviour in my experience - bunch of arseholes the lot of them! Lupus - over the years, I've found Eastbourne fans to be the third most unwelcoming of away fans to their track... just in front of them would be Cradley... wanna know the most unwelcoming?? (with a few honourable exceptions, of course )

It wouldn't be so bad if I knew who the bloody hell Christine was. I hope she got the message once we unplugged the phone

Interestingly Genghis, I've only ever been physically threatened twice at a speedway match (hard to believe I know! ) - once was by a spoon at Cradley and once was by a complete nutter at Cowley. Every team has them! Wouldn't argue with that. [quote author=lupus board=flapper thread=2073 post=45714 Back to Eastie fans though - we've done the paper thing too there but did any of you get threatened by Bob Dugard for doing it? We did...he said he was going to call the police on us! What a knob! ;D [/quote] Problem though is surely, that some other poor prat has to clear up the mess such childish behaviour more associated with soccer leaves rather than those who made it?

Why am I not surprised at your response Bryn?! Heaven forbid that the fans should have FUN. Another example of pay your entrance fee, stand there like good little sheep and then bugger off whilst we count our money!

Another example of pay your entrance fee, stand there like good little sheep and then bugger off whilst we count our money! Trust me Lupus, I've had a lot of 'Fun' over the years when visiting Eastbourne over the years with visiting sides (Rob Ledwth's max on Josh Larsen's bike is one occasion that readily springs to mind) but if tearing up paper and chucking it everywhere is your idea of 'Fun' well all I can say it's sure different to mind and, I expect, different to the poor bugger who has to clear up the mess I'll wager! And whilst the Dugard family sure have had their faults over the years (who hasn't had including me and you no doubt!) I'm mindful of all sterling work they've done not only in terms of improving facilities at Arlington over the years but in playing a prominent part in helping to develop young, and in the main British, talent during their tenure there. Still, you carry on tearing up paper and chucking it all over the place if it gives you pleasure!

How strange, and I thought the paper throwing was just an Ippo thing . Unable to go the the away meeting on May 17th, I was fortunate to watch the DVD of said meeting, and it was great to see all the ticker tape being throw at our boys after the victory.....sorry Bryn but it looked great.

Oh come off it Bryn, it's paper it will bio degrade on it's own after a while in all honesty what harm does it do especially when you also consider most stadiums are, well lets say less than plush. Childish behaviour or simply a way of showing your support for your team? hmmm We're not allowed to critisise anything to do with speedway (god forbid especially if you're "hiding" behind a username on the net ) we're not allowed to show our support by flinging a few bits of ticker-tape in the air in celebration, we're not allowed to boo riders, before you know it, they'll ban cheering on riders as well as it may offend the opposing riders in the race. All getting slightly ridiculous if you ask me.

It was the night when Sam lost the clip that was holding his exhaust on and the Oxford fans seemed to think there was a problem with his silencer...which there WASN'T! Some of the neanderthals by us started effing and blinding at Sam. We tried to point out that no-one could see what was going on and this 'gentleman' decided turn his abuse onto us. He and his mates were 2" from my face and he was poking me on the shoulder telling me how Sam wasn't going to get out of the stadium alive and if I didn't shut the fuck up I'd be joining him....lovely people!

The powers that be and their apologists ought to be listening to the fans not dictating who can say and do what all the time. If they want the sport to be the domain of sad old bastards in anoraks with their programme filled in in four different colours of pen then so be it....but don't complain when those sad old gits are the only supporters left!

Ipswich fans have been renowned for chucking ticker tape for years, but funnily enough Eastbourne is the only track we still do it at. I wonder why! Bryn do you think we should throw bottles instead? !

How strange, and I thought the paper throwing was just an Ippo thing . quote] Nah - Swindon's been doing it for years. We used to take black bin bags on to the coaches, along with copious amounts of Argos catalogues and rip paper all the way to wherever we were going. We even had a name for it - gummidge. The 80's were the height of gummidge, but we took some to Cov last year in the play offs and KOC final ;D And yes, I know I'd hate to be the person clearing up, but at least it's biodegradable, and no one ever got "glassed" with gummidge - just a few nasty paper cuts...

WE used to do it years ago too....although in recent times there have been so few Wolves fans travelling away that it's 10 years or so since we last used the old ticker tape! My favourite memeory of this was an Overseas final or Intercontinental final at Odsal (one that Sam had a good chance of winning - so around 87/88 time!) and we spent the whole coach journey up there ripping up newspaper ready for the meeting. We carried in about 15 big black sacks of the stuff into the meeting and by the end it looked like we were stood in a blizzard.......great FUN! ;D ETA: As you can see Lou I passed the 'habit' on to the Wolves fans.....we definitely used to do it at Swindon in the early 80's too....I'd forgotten that!
