No, it's official - on the Belle Vue website: www.bellevuespeedway.co.uk/main/FS_main.htmJason Crump will wear the Aces race jacket once again after Belle Vue managers confirmed the scoop signing of the Double World Champion for 2008. The 32 year old Australian superstar, who left the Aces for Poole last season after a five year spell with Belle Vue, contacted club managers and expressed his interest in returning to Manchester and David Gordon, along with Chris Morton and Gordon Pairman wasted no time in sealing the deal. His move was confirmed with a handshake between financial director Pairman and Poole promoter Matt Ford after a 30 second whispered conversation during a session at the BSPA conference. David Gordon, who had spoken to Crump earlier in a three-way conversation involving his co-promoter Chris Morton, then secured Crump’s transfer back to Belle Vue with just ten minutes to spare before he boarded a flight to his native Australia. Aces supreme Gordon says the coup proves that they are delivering their promise to the fans by putting things right in spectacular style, following a poor 2007 campaign. The signing is a huge boost for the club and the fans as Crump is one of world speedway's most magnetic attractions. Speaking about the news, a thrilled Gordon said: "We promised fans we wouldn't have another season like the one just finished and hopefully this shows we mean business. "Jason contacted us to say he would be interested in coming back. It was a surprise to say the least. He just said he would sign for us and a deal was done quickly in the course of two further phone calls with myself and Chris Morton. "Jason is a great rider to have in your side, not just for his points-scoring ability as an out-and-out No 1, but because he is such a good team man. "All we were missing last season was a No 1 rider. Now we really want to go for things next year and our target is to be top four side again in what will be our 80 th anniversary season." Crump, who is wintering Down Under where he will concentrate on recovering from a knee injury rather than race, will be back in February to complete his plans for the new campaign. They include an all-out bid to regain his World title as he is determined to wrest it back from Denmark 's Nicki Pedersen. Crump will ride on loan from Poole next season but the Aces have an option to buy him in 2009. Gordon added: "We had discussed a lot of possible options to strengthen the team but, when this one presented itself, we knew it was the one we wanted. We didn't have to think about it. "A signing like this is what our fans have been demanding and deserve. Now we need them to respond." Crump said: "I had some very happy years at Belle Vue, during which we won the KO Cup while I landed the World title twice. I'm very happy to be coming back. "I watched their results last season and was sad to see them struggling. I'll be giving everything to help put them back amongst the front runners. "The promoters have changed since I left but they have been very businesslike to deal with. It wasn't hard to reach an agreement and I was delighted to get it sorted out before I left for Australia . It was good to have everything settled. "I won't be racing in Australia this winter. Instead, I'll have a good break and concentrate on sorting out the knee problem I had at the end of the season. "I want to be fully fit when I come back in February so I can give the Aces 100 per cent as well as making a big challenge to get the World title back."

A good move by the Aces, well done to all involved........but this seems like another nail in the Nicki Pedersen/Elite League coffin. It would appear the only chance of Nicki riding in the UK next year would be for Wolverhampton............and he's as good as ruled that out himself.

Must feel a bit weird, asking for your old job back ...I bet he didn't expect to be doing that 12 months ago ....I'd imagine most of the Aces fans will be chuffed.. At least now we know we're not losing Scott to them either...

Excellent news, perhaps it just proves that i) the new points limit is in fact doing what it should by moving top riders about (willingly) and ii) the top riders who actually want to ride in the UK are getting places.

I agree with your first point Badge, but Nicki Pedersen looks like he's been ruled out, and living in this country, I'm sure he'd like to race here too!

Must admit, it will be a shame if the World Champ doesn't ride this year, however, by his own admission there are too many meetings over here, and TBH I didn't see him race (well apart from the 2 GP's I went to) this last season, so I managed then and will this year (sorry Schumi :

Great news about Crump coming home but with the good you always get the bad.
The Aces are putting admission prices up by £1 for next season.

From Belle Vue's website:
JASON Crump, World champion twice in the last four years, has agreed a new deal which will keep him at Belle Vue until the end of the 2009 season.
And the club have agreed a five-figure transfer fee with Elite League rivals, Poole, to re-sign Crump as a fully contracted Belle Vue rider.
The club, with the backing of sponsors The Advanced Travel Partner, have shaken hands with the 32-year-old Australian on a 12-month extension of his current contract which was due to end in October this year.
