So, high flying Workington come to the STMP this Thursday and with a strong top 3 trio they will be tough opposition. Also, it is another chance to see former Cub Joe Haines in action - Redcar was the place that gave him his first taste of league speedway.
The Bears use Benji Compton for the injured Dan Giffard, why we insist on using Benji bloody Compton is beyond me as he has has dozens of chances and not done it once - both guesting for the Bears and at his other clubs. Our riding order is yet to be confirmed after the management tinkered with it at Rye House for some odd reason - should keep it as it was with Josh at 2 and Chris at 4.
Teams:
Bears
1. Gary Havelock (C) 2. Josh Auty/Chris Kerr 3. James Grieves 4. Chris Kerr/Josh Auty 5. Ty Proctor 6. Benji bloody Compton (G) 7. Arlo Bugeja
Comets
1. Daniel Nermark 2. Tomi Reima R/R 3. Kauko Nieminen (C) 4. Joe Haines 5. Carl Stonehewer 6. Charles Wright 7. John Branney
Prediction: 47-43 to the Bears. A couple of weeks ago this would have been a certain loss but, although Workington have a strong top 3, i think our 2nd strings will provide the back-up needed to our top 3.

Final score 47-43, Grievesy and Havvy 5-1 in the last heat.Firstly, best wishes to Dan Nermark for a full and speedy recovery - worst crash i have seen at Speedway and for a moment it looked as though rider and bike were going over the fence. Secondly, as NEBT says, that was poper speedway. Best meeting at the STMP for a while even if Nermark's crash added to the meeting (although i would much rather it didnt). Great race from Josh in Heat 8 when he cut back on the rest of the riders to take the lead in a move which was completely fair - take note dummy spitter Wright. Heat 11 was a brilliant race up until lap 4 bend 3 as both riders were going at it for all 4 laps and Nermark, like all top riders, never gave up which resulted in him riding straight into Ty's back wheel and hitting the deck. Heat 14 was when Budgie could have cost us the meeting, should have been more aware of Chris in my opinion and a probable 3-3 turned into a 1-5. Hopefully though he will learn from the incident. And Heat 15, brilliant stuff. Grievesy shot out the gate between the Worky lads whilst Havvy got pushed out on bend 1. But, as Grievesy was doing the job up front he was holding the Worky riders up allowing Havvy to pass them brilliantly - a bit like the Heat 15 vs Kings Lynn when Havvy went from last to 1st but this was alot more important. Also, what a 1st bend on lap 3 when Havvy rode the perfect line to shut Nemo right out. - masterclass in how to ride the STMP. As much as last nights meeting was great, can we have a 30 point thrashing of our opponents next week
