Just to satisfy my own curiosity, what do you all estimate it would cost to set up a speedway track, with reasonable facilities, from scratch?
And apart from planning, what other issues would there be to overcome?

I think I heard that a very basic track with minimal facilities was in the order of GBP 40-50K, but that was nearly 10 years ago. If you start adding better spectator facilities, it would quickly add up I'd imagine. Of course, that wouldn't include the land, or the several thousand you need to pay to the BSPA to actually become a promoter. I reckon that you probably wouldn't get much change out of a million pounds to build a proper speedway stadium these days.

You would certainly need a few quid to build a new stadium. Land, Services (Water, electricity etc.), planning permission, materials, building costs, plus any Enviromental Issues that would need to be resolved (can't seem to do anything these days without someone poking there nose in ). Also on top of that there would be insurance, track licenses plus any other health and safety requirements. Seems a lot of hassle to get everything up and running, but if you have the time and money, it could be worth it in the end. Where are you thinking of setting your track up about Schumi ;D
