Aces 40 - 52 Panthers
My opinion of the 2 teams
1. Lindback - Crap on his own bikes, much better on Stead and Skornicki's
2. Wright - Needs to gate at KL and realise there is an outside line too
3. Screen - Good night for Joe. Made some good gates and you could sense he was desperate to beat Bjerre. Man Of The Match
4. Doolan - Dependable as ever. Blip in his second ride coming last. Did seem to be down on power though.
5. Stead - Poor tonight. Bjerre passed him like he was stood still in heat 4. Wasn't gating and then seemed to lose interest.
6. Forsberg - First time I've seen him and was very impressed. On strange (to him) machinery he never gave up, was never far off the pace and deserved his heat win.
7. Skornicki - Much better from Adam. Seemed more on the pace but still not making gates.
For them.
1. Andersen - Class of his own. Gate and Go merchant though.
2. Dryml - Started off poor but got better as meeting went on.
4. Swiderski - Not impressed. Didn't do much and he only beat Wrighty and Forsberg for his points.
5. Bjerre - Came back to haunt us. Gated and went in all 6 rides. Team rode well with Andersen.
6. King - Did ok. One for the future.
7. Hall - One track wonder. Never forget at last seasons Craven Shield match telling his mechanic after the meeting he didn't know why P'Boro used him cos he f***ing hates this track. Showed how much he loves KL on Monday........4 rides and Nil Points.

Simon Stead, apparently, harbours GP ambitions, but the simple truth of the matter is that he's closer to being a Premier League rider than a Grand Prix rider.

He was inspirational in 2003 in the Prem but its never materialized. Think BV was a hurdle and Wolves not much better. If he ends up at Blunsodn in 2008 and still struggles to impress then he may have found his level.

In his first 2 seasons Stead had Crump around and looked to him for inspiration and advice. You saw the improvements Stead made in 2005 and 2006 at Kirky Lane. Steady went from reserve in 2005 to heat leader in 2006 and Number 1 for 2007. Since Crump went he's been lost, there is no-one around to inspire him and others were looking to him for inspiration. He had a bad smash at KL when Nicki Pedersen clipped his back wheel and Steady flew over the fence and landed on the dog track. IMHO he came back too soon and you could see how nervous he was on a bike. He then had another horror crash at Ipswich which, again, I think he came back too soon from. Now the season is over and there is nothing to ride for, from a BV perspective, Steady is just going through the motions. In Sweden his scores reflect his UK scores. If he takes the winter off, gets himself fully fit and regains his confidence he will be a bargain for Belle Vue in 2008 as he'll probably be on an average of 5.

Since Crump went he's been lost, there is no-one around to inspire him and others were looking to him for inspiration. That's an interesting point, because in different surroundings in a different team young Steady actually looked happy, scored readily and had a clear sense of purpose. Friday, 17th August may have been a pivotal point in Steady's career.

You got it in one!! May I ask why it was pivotal? Indeed you may. Call it a gut feeling or call it bollocks, but Steady just seemed to "fit" that night........... put it this way, I don't think it will be the last time he wears Hammers' colours.

Hats off to the lad though, he did us proud and rode his heart out.

More than he's done for us this season. He's been a massive disappointment this season. OK, he had 2 bad crashes and they must seriously affect his confidence but he has looked lost without Crump (or a heat leader) around him. It was a big ask for Stead to be heat leader but it was a challenge I thought he would relish but it did not turn out that way.
If Belle Vue do not sign a bona fide heat leader in 2008 then Steady will be a bargain for someone else, probably Coventry, on his average.
