Confirmation that Belle Vue are in talks with former Coventry favourite and current German champion Martin Smolinski about a return to the Elite League:
Belle Vue are in talks with German champion, Martin Smolinski, as they line up a team re-shuffle next week.
The 23-year-old former Coventry rider is keen to return to the Elite League and has released the fact on his personal website that the One51 Aces have made an approach.
Several clubs are expected to make changes when the new averages come into force on July 1 and the Aces, who have been ravaged by injury, are desperate to boost the bottom end of their side and give more support to a very strong cutting edge of Jason Crump, Charlie Gjedde and Joe Screen.
Belle Vue chief David Gordon said: "We have been in discussions with Smolinski about joining but he is just one of several riders who are interesting us.
"We cannot make a final decision until the new official averages are released and then we will know exactly how many points we have available.
"We want to redress the balance of our side but our circumstances are complicated by the fact we have Lukasz Jankowski and Steve Boxall injured and are not sure when they will be back. Jankowski may not be able to ride again this season."
The Aces, who ride at Eastbourne on Sunday afternoon, expect to have Joe Screen back for Monday's home Elite League match against Peterborough at Kirkmanshulme Lane (7 45).
His missed last Monday's 52-38 win over Ipswich after suffering concussion in a crash in the Knockout Cup quarter-final defeat at Coventry.
He said: "You can't be too careful with concussion. Sometimes in the past I've come back too early after injury but this time I'll make sure I'm 100 per cent ready."
Aces' team manager Chris Morton is looking to Billy Forsberg to maintain his newly-found form after the young Swede dropped only one point in five races to an Ipswich rider.
Morton said: "Billy had not been too happy with himself recently but the smile was back after last Monday's meeting.
"He had been missing the starts but he sorted that out and was attacking the track which is the way to ride it. He really nailed it and it was good to see. Now he must keep that form going."
