As expected, I suppose. Sad news. Sounds like there might still be some racing at Newport, though, I wonder what?

Indeed, it would be a great shame to see the operation grind to a halt after the work that Mr. Stone put in over many years. As we know, it can be difficult to start again once there has been a period with no action Surely there can be some open meetings put on there? It's not a bad location for riders who are local to the Midlands tracks and the extra track time could be very valuable.

Not good news at all - Watson to Glasgow and Atkin to Berwick were a couple of rumours I heard over the weekend.

And a little more from www.getnoticedonline.co.ukNEWPORT Wasps won’t be able to complete their Premier League programme following the sudden death of promoter Tim Stone.
Based on the information received by the BSPA, it appears that Newport will be unable to fulfil their Premier League fixtures this season.
But the BSPA added in a brief statement: “However, every effort is being made to ensure the sport continues at Newport and we will provide further updates as and when more information is available.”
The Newport club was very much a one-man band and crusade by Stone who died two weeks ago.
The Wasps’ star rider Craig Watson has been critical of the BSPA’s handling of the whole affair, believing they should have acted quicker to find alternative employment for the riders.
Watson (pictured below) said|: “I spoke to the BSPA the day after Tim died and I believe they should have released all of us, even if it was a temporary arrangement.
“I don’t think the BSPA have considered the riders enough and I’m quite upset about it.
“I’ve been one of the lucky ones out of the Newport team as I’ve had some guest bookings. But I really feel for all of the boys who haven’t had the opportunity to earn any money.”
Watson is certainly having an unlucky time of it because his switch to the Elite League with Poole was cancelled because he had been recruited on the wrong average. Is Watson being insensitive, or just realistic?

Bit of both I'd say Schumi. Obviously the Newport riders would have been concerned about their futures for this season, but his piece in the speedway star did come over as him being a tad insensitive at the time (a day after Stone's death!!!)
Maybe he should have waited a few days longer.

Is Watson being insensitive, or just realistic? Perhaps, given the timing Watson was insensitive but in his position it was totally understandable, where I would disagree with him is with his target - the BSPA. Now I am not normally one to defend the BSPA but I really think they have come in for way too much stick over what was essentially a 'one man' business failing to have sufficient plans in place for the circumstances that arose Perhaps there should be rules that all clubs have to be run as limited companies with at least two directors but given the haphazard nature of many of the clubs and the governing body which is effectively no more than willing volunteers from its membership I think they have probably done as much if not more than could have been expected
