Was reading an article by Peter Waite , this morning , in the wonderful Daily Star ( check out Gemma's tits in yesterdays paper ) . And Berwick's controversial promoter was bemoaning the fact that British clubs can no longer attract riders from Eastern Europe . The Czech and Polish markets are Peter's favourite shopping places , but now youngsters from there are heading to the cash-rich Russian League . Apparently the money men have moved into the Russian speedway scene and the place is awash with cash . Peter reckons he's heard of riders being paid £750 a point . If this is true , then it must be a major worry for EL promoters . If decent heat-leaders can earn silly money over there , they'll be turning their backs on British speedway in their droves .

From memory, I believe the only rider to leave the British Leagues for the gold encrusted streets of Russia has been Ryan Sullivan. The eight hour flights each way have put most European riders off from signing a contract in Russia, and the riders who have, rarely do many meetings over there.........so it is a worry I admit, but not a huge one.

I believe Havvy rode in the odd meeting last year also . Fair enough Kev it might be just a trickle at the moment , but trickles can easily become floods .

With the money them Russians are throwing at riders who can blame them. Doesn't make it any easier for promoters here i grant you & i wonder how long it'll be before there's a knock-on effect in both leagues.

I wouldn't worry too much.
The Russian League is down to 5 teams this year, racing each other only once at home, once away.
Total league programme = only 20 matches!
