Come on guys - start casting around for some serious SPEEDWAY candidates for this week eh? I'm firmly in the camp with those who think this should be speedway related, so whilst it'll go to the most deserving candidate if there aren't enbough speedway ones, I'd much rather it was, if you get my drift! I'm with Witch here . In the grand scheme of things a gang rapist is getting off a bit lightly with just FOTW - so i think it should be Speedway related only . And on that very subject , the season starts ( maybe ) this weekend . And in Scotland the traditional curtain raiser is the Spring Trophy ( and it is the tackiest trophy you will ever see in your life ) between Glasgow and The Dark Side . No doubt at either The Messiahdome or The Stadium of Mince or both the Grand Monarch ( Jim McGregor ) will be referee - so i'm getting in first before he excludes his first Tiger of 2008 . Jim McGregor for FOTW .

Aye me seen that trophy.
A silver painted spring (ie. extra large slinky) stuck on a bit of plywood.

Growing up watching their heroes race for the Spring Trophy........and then one of them notices it's the 16th time these two teams have faced each other in 10 months.

Sad though it is, surely it has to be young Lewis Bridger, I know he hasn't been found guilty of anything yet, and I sincerely hope he isn't, but to put yourself in a position to even be charged with a racially aggravated assault must be thoroughly stupid. The fact that the local magistrates refused the case and sent it to the Crown Court surely means this case is not small beer! The least he needs is some guidance about his choice of 'friends'.

I'm in the same camp as you Witch, so here's a couple to consider...... Neil Middleditch for leaving it so late before announcing he's not continuing in his Team GB role, and Alun Rossiter for saying on the radio that he's going to be far more professional this season, and then a few minutes later, deny that Swindon are going 'on the piss' on their team building exercise in Ireland.

Not sure that even being termnally stupid would be enough for me to label him a flapperjack. Can you be a flapperjack if you're just misguided and have the wrong sort of friends?

I would say yes, if you do not learn from mistakes and consistentally choose "bad lots" as friends. The above is a general comment and not related to any specific person or speedway rider

Now I'm not accusing Lewis of anything, just to get that straight, BUT what you seem to be saying is that, it may not have been him but the wrong sort of friendsof his, well who's to say that HE may indeed be the "wrong" sort of friend, and we are doing his friends down Just trying to give another side to this

Ok so we want a speedway related nominee. For me it's Speedway Star FSL, they've deleted 3 of my teams & i've no idea why, if i get a credit card bill for them i'll not be a happy bunny. . Sod 'em i'll stick with you wonderful lot.

I am hoping that the nomination is for Middlo is slightly tongue in cheek. Not unless the suggestion he resigned when he did was out of badness - is to be taken seriously.
Just maybe, his circumstances changed or his close families did over the winter, and that he was still committed to the job until he resigned when he did. Maybe, and its possible I guess, that the BSPA even asked him to resign what with the public furore about the issue. There could be any number of reasons why.
Somehow though, I get the impression that he was damned if he did and damned if he didn’t, at any time.

Jim, Middlo said in his statement that his resignation was due to needing to spend more time on the family business as a result of his Dad's retirement - he made no suggestion that this was as a result of ill health or anything like that, so in fairness to Kev it does appear to have been something which was planned. If so then surely Middlo could, and should, have resigned sooner to give more "handover time"? On reading his statement, I for one was surprised that there was not any form of explanation or surprise for the short notice.
