The bloke is a pillock. All the best Rob Someone once called me a pillock on the Lakeside forum. What actually is a pillock? Some insults are obvious - wanker, bastard, etc But what's a pillock? All the best Rob

At the risk of taking this thread off into the wilderness, it has always surprised me that the speedway crowd get so snooty about stock cars.
Ok, you might not choose to watch them, they may not interest you, but I've seen folk get incredibly up tight about the subject.
As Jim has pointed out, historically there is a link between the two sports and there still is at a number of tracks; in fact, I would go so far as to say that if the stock cars took their audiences elsewhere, there's a good chance that the now stand alone speedway track would struggle to survive.
With the speedway audience seemingly dwindling year on year, wouldn't it be better to have stronger ties with the stock car community?
I've been to a few stock car meetings at Arena over the last year, and the announcer has, without fail, mentioned the next speedway meeting to be held at the track, I've never once heard the speedway guys return the compliment; it's worth bearing in mind that stock cars normally get substantially better audiences than speedway, so a bit of cross promotion could go a long way.
As an aside, as Jim also mentioned there have been a few speedway riders who topped up their income by racing stocks, indeed one of this country's most famous and successful stock car drivers, Mr 351 Barry Lee, started his career as a speedway rider of some promise.

But what's a pillock? All the best Rob You should know, you just called someone a pillock and it's a wise man that knows the meanings of the insults he uses.

Donsking, Did you have a number? (or were you a free man? ) A bit of cross-over promotion can't do any harm. But annoys me is when someone disses speedway to big up another sport... on a speedway forum. No need for that, and that's why speedyguy gets up my nose. But he's a pillock (whatever that word actually means, I can't be arsed to google it) not a flapperjack, Paul Carrington is still my nomination for flapperjack of the week! All the best Rob

As a former stock car driver and current watcher, I could probably find a way of taking exception to that............... Driving is obviously different, but from a spectating point of view....well I do need a lot more convincing Also you have 'Banger racing' christ alive that is way way up in the moron scale, truly sad fog no offence intended just an opinion

All the best Rob I must admit, I wouldn't big up stock cars at the expense of speedway, so you have a point, speedyguy could be a pillock (originally a 16th century slang word for penis, it drives from the scandanavian word pillicock.............you asked!). I had a few numbers (you don't always get to keep the same number if you switch formulas) but I tried to hang on to 404 when I could.

I was eager to try a bit of banging when I was younger, but sadly very few young ladies were interested.

You should know, you just called someone a pillock and it's a wise man that knows the meanings of the insults he uses. Sub, Right, now I have googled it, rather disappointingly "pillock" just means "stupid person" or "person of limited intelligence", that's nothing else behind it. Quite a boring insult then. All the best Rob

Pillock: stupid: a person who is not very bright. Edit: Dk, would I be right in remembering they have stock cars at Rye? I'm pretty certain there wasn't a dedicated stock car track when I went to Rye House last year, but I guess they might use the speedway track, although I don't remember seeing it on the racing calender in my day (I'm not an expert on stock car tracks though).

All the best Rob Tell me Rob, As I think I know who Speedguy is and by your definition; if it is whom I think he is not a pillock as defined, I would be interested to know what he thinks about you with your potato thread?? And insisting on a forum poll... ;D Let them cast the first stone, or if you prefer kettle & black.. ;D All the best, Jim
