1st half was pretty much a non affair, but I think in the 2nd half England played really well, with some attractive on the deck football to boot.
Agree Gerrard was never Man of the Match, that should have went to without a shadow of a doubt Wayne Rooney. Although he didn't get on the score sheet himself, he was at the heart of everything. Usually picking the ball up nearer the half way line, making a pass, then running his guts off to get into the box. Also I think given time he could have a really good partnership with Crouch. They both seemed to understand each other.
Thought David James apart from his last minute fluff at the ball, was pretty solid tonight, collected most crossed balls, some decent saves.
Overall I would give them all pass-marks.
Well Done

Yes, the first 40 minutes were bad - we couldn't keep possession and didn't seem to gel as a team. I hadn't watched the last couple of England matches under McClaren because it was agonising, but I went into this one with renewed hope under Capello. In the end it was Joe Cole who provided that lifeline.
But there are strange things afoot in the England camp. Seems the new manager has implemented an odd but interesting rule - the players' obligatory new facial hair. What's that all about?

Capello doesn't give much away does he.On the touch- line he's expressionless ,even after the England goals.I did notice him applaud the Swiss goal though, just sportsmanship i presume. He does have quite a good understanding of Englishi feel, unless Gary Lewin spoke to him in Italian.I think he'll be reasonably pleased with his 1st day at the office. France away will be a much diffferent prospect though.

France away will be a much diffferent prospect though. For teams which put 11 men behind the ball and score a fluke , France away is toffee . ;D Agreed

Tut tut young Harry , that's not fair . It's the tactics I am used to down City, I have seen a few performances against higher opposition where it's like The Alamo.
