From the IOW press release:
The rampant Wightlink Islanders were in no mood to surrender their unbeaten 2008 home record when bottom of the table Mildenhall came to Smallbrook last night (Tuesday) and, as many had predicted, it led to skipper Jason Bunyan and crew storming to their biggest win of the season so far.
The final scoreline of Wightlink Islanders 65 Mildenhall 28 fully reflects the home side's total domination of proceedings from start to finish with Bunyan leading by example as he remained unbeaten by Mildenhall rider throughout the match.
So too did young Australian James Holder who recorded his first ever five ride paid maximum in British speedway, a major milestone for the 22 year old who is in his first full season of racing in the UK.
Congratulations to James.

Snippets from the lastest IOW press release:
The Wightlink Islanders management will be anxiously awaiting news later this morning concerning the full extent of the hand / wrist injury sustained by in-form Aussie Cory Gathercole after he crashed out of last night's home league match with the Scunthorpe Scorpions.
They will be hoping that his injuries prove not to be that serious, enabling him to take his place in the side that travels to Birmingham later today for the scheduled away Premier League match against the Brummies but he must be rated as very doubtful for the fixture.
Cory was leading the opening heat last night, and seemingly on his way to securing a maximum 5-1 heat win with skipper Jason Bunyan in second place, when his rear chain snapped as he exited the second bend on the last lap at high speed, causing him to take a very awkward looking tumble.
There was much relief amongst the assembled fans on the terraces when he got to his feet and was able to walk back to pits but his left hand / wrist started swelling rapidly and track paramedic Clive Greedy swiftly ruled him out of the remainder of the match.
Cory and his mechanics immediately made their way back to the mainland, informing the club's management that the intention was for him to go to his local hospital in Swindon for X-rays once he arrived home or first thing this morning. A further bulletin will be issued later this morning once the club receives an update on Cory's condition.
Yes there's concern too over the second Aussie in the Wightlink Islanders side James Holder who was taken ill during last night's match but bravely continued riding despite feeling, and it has to be said looking none too well. Hopefully he'll be feeling a lot better when he wakes up this morning and will declare himself fit to ride tonight especially with major doubts over Gathercole's fitness to ride in the meeting.
IOW scorers (in riding order - No. of rides in brackets): Jason Bunyan 13+1 (5), Corey Gathercole 0 (1 - injured), Glen Phillips 9+2 (4), Krzysztof Stojanowski 10+1 (4), Paul Fry 11+3 (5), Andrew Bargh 8+1 (6), James Holder 9+1 (5).
Scunthorpe scorers (in riding order - No. of rides in brackets): Richard Hall 12+1 (6 inc 4pt tactical ride), Carl Wilkinson 6 (6), Magnus Karlsson (rider replacement), Viktor Bergstrom 5+1 (5), Emiliano Sanchez 4 (5), Ben Powell 3+3 (5), Byron Bekker 2 (3).

Update (press release):
It looks as if Wightlink Islander Cory Gathercole may need an operation to rectify the injuries he sustained as a result of his who crash in the opening heat of last night's 60-32 home league win over Scunthorpe.
X-rays at his local hospital in Swindon have revealed that the young Australian has suffered a break just below the thumb of his left hand, a plaster cast was fitted temporarily and he has to return to the hospital tomorrow (Thursday) to see a specialist.
It will then be decided whether he should undergo an operation to pin the broken bone or to allow the injury to heal naturally. We will issue a further update once we know the decision.
As an aside, the X-rays taken on last night's injury also discovered that he had broken the scaphoid bone in the same wrist some time ago that has healed itself and, in typical speedway fashion Cory cannot remember any crash he might have had that could have caused such an injury!

Apologies for the delay in posting this - only just checked my email. IOW press update:
The Wightlink Islanders management have now learnt that young Australian Cory Gathercole is likely to be out of action for at least a month as a result of the hand injury he sustained as a result of his crash in the first heat of Tuesday's home league win over Scunthorpe.
A temporary plaster cast was fitted when he visited his local hospital accident and emergency unit and, following consultation with a specialist yesterday (Thursday), he will now undergo an operation tomorrow to wire up the broken bones in his left hand at the bottom of his thumb.
"The specialist told me that is the best option," he said this morning, " and that I'll be unable to ride a speedway bike for four to five weeks with it being at least four weeks until the wires can come out, assuming the bones have knitted together at that point. I'm gutted that this has happened but it has and I've just got to deal with it as best I can but I can assure everyone I'll be back in the saddle as soon as I can be."
Faced with having to do without the popular young Aussie for such a length of time, the the club's management are exploring the possibility of bringing in a temporary replacement to cover for him whilst he is sidelined.
"It's a big blow to us losing Cory's services for such a length of time at this stage of the season," commented co-promoter Dave Pavitt, "and naturally we all hope that he regains full fitness as soon as possible.
"We've assessed the situation and have come to the conclusion that operating the rider replacement regulations, which would mean his programmed riders could be shared amongst the remaining team members with the exception of Glen Phillips whose average is too high, would put too much pressure on them.
"Consequently we are exploring several ideas we have in mind with regards to bringing in a new rider to cover for Cory on a temporary basis until the medics give him the all clear that he can resume racing and hopefully one of those leads will come off and we can reveal a new signing in the near future."

Richard Sweetman would seem the obvious choice, assuming Swindon aren't planning on using him in place of Sebastian Alden.

From IOW press release:
Injured young Aussie Cory Gathercole returns to hospital on Wednesday of next week and will be hoping that doctors will finally give him the all-clear to get back into action. He's been out of action since breaking bones in his left hand in a crash during the course of the Wightlink Islanders home win over Scunthorpe way back on July 8. He has undergone two operations to repair the damage and now hopes that, at last, he'll be given the green light to start riding again.
NEW DATE FOR AWAY MATCH AT STOKE...
Following the postponement of the original fixture because of a waterlogged track, the Wightlink Islanders will now travel to Stoke in the Premier League on Saturday September 27 A further reminder too that a change of date now sees the Wightlink Islanders travel to Newcastle for their Premier League match on Monday 22nd September instead of Sunday 7th September as was originally scheduled. Please mark your records accordingly.

Press release:
Plans to stage the fourth round of the British Sidecar Speedway Championship at Weymouth this coming Saturday (September 6) have been cancelled and instead the Wightlink Islanders have agreed to send a team to Radipole Lane to do battle with the incumbent Conference League side, the Weymouth Wildcats, in an inter-league challenge match starting at 7.15pm.
As regards the sidecars, the reason for the cancellation is that following behind closed doors tests, it was felt that the tight Wessex circuit was just too tight for the monster 1000cc sidecar outfits to negotiate safely under full race conditions.

Apparently this was urgent, but I don't check my email that often. I guess most people it affected would have known anyway:
Tonight's scheduled match between the Wightlink Islanders and the Somerset Rebels at the Wave 105 Stadium has been POSTPONED and has been rescheduled to take place in a fortnight's time on Tuesday September 23rd.

Press release (snippet):
Following his superb third place in last week's penultimate round of this year's World Longtrack Championship in Aduard, France, Wightlink Islander Glen Phillips and the rest of the competitors moved onto Vechta in Germany last night (Saturday) for the fourth and final round of this year's 2008 championship.
And Glen produced another breathtaking performance to finish third in the main final behind meeting winner Theo Pijper of Holland and fellow Brit Andrew Appleton and that, in the unofficial final overall classifications, was enough to see him clinch him second place overall in this year's World Championship behind this year's overall champion, Germany's Gerd Riss.
