if the match was rained off and he then walks out what would u suggest? It's not what I suggest that counts, is it? It's the rules of the sport that count. I've been told that's what the rules say - if you haven't ridden, you don't get a facility.

Seems George isn't to be a Moanarch after all . Was he ever going to be i'm wondering . Or were the Monarchs trying to pull a fast one to avoid using a CL guest to replace the long-tracking Theo Pijper against Rye House . Because of the rain we will never know .

I don't know where you get this from, Paulco. George Stancl is in the Edinburgh redeclared 1-7 to replace Theo Pijper. That's the way things stand at present and will do so until/if the Monarchs redeclare again. There is no way Theo Pijper will ever ride for Edinburgh again if I'm not mistaken. He was told after the Somerset meeting that his Edinburgh days were over. I know you should never say "never" but that's the way it stands. I believe that Edinburgh have a number of options for further changes, one of which is that George Stancl remains in the team as one of the top two. It is simply idle speculation to say that he will be out before turning a wheel. On the other hand it may be that the Edinburgh promotion decide to go down another route. At the moment no-one knows outside of the management (and perhaps they too are not sure which way to go). Stancl's maximum at Newcastle will certainly have done his chances no harm of being kept on and I am pretty sure that he has been made aware of the position regarding the team. As far as Stancl being allowed to guest for Newcastle without turning a wheel for Edinburgh is concerned, a precedent was well and truly set when Craig Watson was allowed to represent Glasgow in the Pairs without ever having turned a wheel for the Tigers. It wasn't Stancl's fault that Friday's match was postponed by the weather and it would make no sense for him to be deprived of the opportunity of a guest booking as a result of the postponement. Of course we all know that many of speedway's rules are made on the hoof with little thought of possible anomalies which could occur (last season's reserve rules were a prime example). I expect there is some sort of great panjandrum like Peter Oakes who makes 'discretionary' decisions about some of these issues but I expect we will never know for sure.

It certainly seems as though George was grabbed as a quick replacement due to Theo being away and no facility being available for him on Friday, and other potential signings being unavailable on that particular day. However, that doesn't mean that he definitely wont have a part to play going forward...

Never been convinced by Ryan, so not sure if that would be a bad thing or not. However, PL might be the level that makes him, and it'd probably be worth a go on him if they could get him.

I think that's right and I expect some sort of announcement to be made tomorrow. Personally I hope that George Stancl is not part of any redeclared 1-7. I hope that Edinburgh start to look forward to next season rather than use a stop-gap like Stancl. Even if he turned out to score well we'd still be at the whim of the Glasgow promotion if we wanted to use him again next year when I expect him to be back at Glasgow in any case. I'd much rather we cut our losses and looked for something with a bit more interest and excitement with a view to 2008. This season has been a dead loss for the Monarchs so to prop up the ailing side with riders we know so much about and who have proven to be rather suspect in the Premier League from time to time would not be the way I would choose to go.

I can understand your reasoning on this . George must be the most frustrating rider ever to have in your team . When he's good he's very good - he oozes class on the bike . But you never know what George is going to turn up on any given day . The George that gives up after a couple of laps has you tearing your hair out . Trouble is though there is not many Number ones out there - Fisher i'm not convinced about . Somebody like Kenneth Hansen , who started the season with Worky , has the potential to be a very good rider and with the Monarch's relationship with Wolverhampton an arrangement should be a possibility . Now to try and convince my own promotion to pension off Michael Coles and give a boy a chance to prove himself .

Now to try and convince my own promotion to pension off Michael Coles and give a boy a chance to prove himself . I couldn't agree more. If Glasgow were in the hunt for any of the honours then I guess Coles might have been worth persevering with but, with little else this season to aim for, the prospect of taking on board a young untried rider with a view to developing him as your three pointer for next season would bring added interest and excitement to the team. The fans usually take really well to these young guys, understanding that they're learning their trade, and, even if they don't achieve much, are willing to support rather than criticise. Coles is going nowhere at this late stage in his career. Not only is it sad watching these older guys struggling round at the back, you know they're just going to get worse apart from the odd few moments when they turn the clock back. Stick them in the Conference League where they can at least pass on their knowledge and experience to youngsters who need that sort of guidance.

Today's Edinburgh Press Release reads as follows:
THREE NEW MEN FOR THE SCOTWASTE MONARCHS
In one of the most dramatic moves the club has ever made, Edinburgh Scotwaste Monarchs will line up against Mildenhall Fen Tigers on Friday with three new riders.
Coming into the side will be Kai Laukkanen (Finland), George Stancl (Czech Republic), and Kalle Katajisto (Finland).
Making way will be Ronnie Correy and Henrik Moller, in addition to Theo Pijper who was dropped from the side last week.
Monarchs’ promoter John Campbell said “Recent performances at home and away have not been good enough and changes had to be made. We see the riders coming in as fresh and exciting for our supporters.
“It is not easy telling riders that they are dropped, I appreciate they will be disappointed.”
Laukkanen started the season in the Elite League with Belle Vue but lost his place as the Aces struggled. He is a rider accustomed to competing at the top level and should be very capable of doing well in the Premier League.
The Finnish youngster Kalle Katajisto has been recommended by Laukkanen as an exceptional prospect, though this move comes very early for a rider who has only started on 500cc this season after coming through 80cc racing as so many Scandinavians do.
George Stancl of course is very familiar as a regular race winner at Armadale in the colours of Glasgow and Newcastle.
American Ryan Fisher was also considered for a place, but he has had to be told that the decisions have gone elsewhere. Edinburgh Speedway wish him well in finding a place, as we do of course for Ronnie Correy, Henrik Moller and Theo Pijper.
Details of the new riders:
KAI LAUKKANEN: Born 8/4/75, Seinajoki, Finland. Kai has ridden for years at the highest level and was Nordic Champion in 2001, and a Grand Prix competitor in 2002. He first rode in the UK with Long Eaton in 1995-6, and has since been with Belle Vue plus a brief and successful spell with Glasgow at the end of 1998. He scored 6 points in the Grand Prix Qualification semi-final recently, and also 3 points in the opening World Cup meeting last weekend. Rides in the Swedish Elite League with Indianerna, Finnish club is Kotkat.
GEORGE STANCL: Born 19/8/75, Prague. Needs little introduction anywhere in the Premier League as he has been one of the leading riders in the division since joining Glasgow in 2002. Recent successes include a Premier Pairs victory plus an Ashfield classic, and he has Armadale maximums on his record. Believes he has conquered his mechanical problems and as a timely reminder of his ability, scored a paid maximum guesting for Newcastle last Sunday.
KALLE KATAJISTO: Born 24/4/91, Varkaus, Finland. He is in his first season of 500cc racing, having come through the ranks of 80cc in Scandinavia where he was three-times Finnish Champion. Was seventh in this year’s Finnish Under 21 Final and seventh in the senior championship. Races in the Finnish League for Jokerit Kauhajoki and reached the semi-final of this year’s European Under 19 Championship, finishing tenth.
Kalle Katajisto comes in on a five point average.

Ahhh....So George gets to stay Delighted to hear that the Kaj & Kalle deal has gone through. I was starting to think that it wasn't going to happen after all!!! Should be interesting to see how the kid copes over here. I can't imagine that he'll do too much, but hopefully he'll be given plenty of time.
