Sadly I regard much of the talk about an Oxford speedway return as sentimentality rather than reality.I recall often reading when speedway last took place there concerns in regard to low attendances. I cannot see an Oxford return being a long-term successful venture.

Forwarded reply from Oxford Speedway supporter John Fray: John Hyam -don’t be so gloomy. The stadium can only be used for recreation. Following At Tuesday’s SOS well attended meeting a business man gave an outline for greyhound and speedway with the finances in place to get it up and running again. There is room for development which the supporting City’s Labour Council is prepared to consider to help make it a very viable proposition. There is still strong support for greyhound and speedway racing even among the very local residents. Our local paper the Oxford Mail has always given great support with for example Monday and Tuesday this week two full page speedway spreads. At the tale end of Oxford speedway and even though we were in the lowest league we still had good support in 2007 when it closed. Support was not the real problem because as we know it was the intention of the stadiums, venture capitalist owners, wanting to demolition it and build rabbit hutches for housing. The high rent was too much and that’s what they wanted in their resolve to drive the promotors out. The stadium could be compulsory purchased by the council if the owners wont sell for the value as it stands as unused deteriorating sports and leisure arena. Others may have given up hope, but there are lots that haven’t. Up the Cheetahs John Fray

What is known in the business world about Oxford's prospective benefactor Nick Budimir who was mentioned in a Press Link as being prepared to pay £20million on renovating the old Cowley Stadium. With only a possible based on speedway crowd attendances of a round 1,000 it's going to take him quite a few years to recap his investment if its largely based on speedway. TBH I have no idea what sort of attendances Oxford would get for a greyhound racing return. However based on the immediate it all looks encouraging for speedway and greyhounds to eventually reappearing at Cowley Stadium.

When there were attempts some years ago to try and save Walthamstow Stadium wasn't Nick Budimir involved in some way in that venture? Or am I wrong?
