Given Sub's well-documented love of fish & chips, I couldn't resist posting this link: www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,2130640,00.html It would appear that the humble fried fish & fatty spud have gone up market and are now served with wine for a kings' ransom. Even batter scraps are now sold at £2 a pop!! So, what does our genial host make of that development? Evidently I'm in the wrong business - food or porn have to be more lucrative (and I can ask Mr Shovlar about the latter ;D) Love & kisses to all Andy

I think the fact of the matter is that the poor quality fish and chip shops have to go under. And there's a lot of them around. People are willing to pay a premium for top quality fish and chips, but are less willing to tolerate poor quality.

Ah, but I thought you'd abhor the elitist tendency to become "designer" fish & chips appealing to what Kev would describe as the "chattering classes"!! lol - good working class grub and should stay within the working man's pocket, no?

Certainly fish and chips should stay within the reach of the working man's pocket. And very definitely within the reach of this working Mongol's pocket. I find that takeaway fish and chips are still reasonably priced and that's the way to eat your fish and chips. If the chattering classes are willing to pay over the odds to eat them with wine, well, it may be subsidising the takeaway prices.

Thins your blood too doesnt it? But then so does aspirin, and last time I looked I don't think you can get vinegar on the NHS.... tho it's better at cleaning your windows than aspirin
