Just been watching Sky News and thanking my lucky stars that here in East Anglia we are reasonably well off. What has annoyed me tho is people complaining about the lack of police patrols and information. How exactly do these people expect the police vehicles to get thro the blocked motorway! Do they not think some police officers might also be caught up in queues attempting to get to work in the first place. Surely police have more important things to do than inform people who set out in weather that was known for days beforehand to be of monsoon proportions, with no water or food!. Then of course there is the small matter of police personnel being involved in rescuing people from houses etc who actually are in danger of their lives.....cos that's not important if you are on the M5 and want a piss is it I wouldn't mind betting that many of the emergency service personnel and indeed volunteers at emergency reception centres having been working for nearly 24 hours. People have to take responsibility for themselves now and again. How difficult is it to have a bottle of water and some food in the car, especially when you have kids with you. Talk about Nanny State OK rant over, I'll go back to the housework now ;D

There is definitely something wrong when , someone from Scotland asks whether its raining... ;D It hasn't bloody stopped here, we live on the River Avon and have just had our flood risk upgraded not good. We are trying to leave for our hols, which has left us trying to decide what to do...but at least if we do get away, we'll be going to good weather.......NOT

What has annoyed me tho is people complaining about the lack of police patrols and information. People just like to complain about something, and have someone to blame for their misfortune. It's a culture engendered by our sensationalist media, and one wonders how we ever managed to survive the Blitz. Water water everywhere, but not a drop to drink! Can people really not tolerate a bit of short-term discomfort without requiring a 'state of emergency' to be declared.

Im sick of hearing about the bloody floods down south! When we flooded a few weeks ago(and NO im not in sheffield, Im in Hull) they didnt go on about it in as greater detail as they have this time!
Yes I feel sorry for the people who are effected, its not pleasant and I wouldnt wish it on anyone (I know as we still have De-humidifyers drying our house out!) but stop going on about it!!
StarLady, when we were flooded we never had any type of help, we had to look after ourselfs, and pull together as a community. Infact we didnt get help unitll 4 days later!

Really usababe? Hull may have been forgotten when the floods hit the north but Sheffield, York & surrounding areas were all that the news was reporting down here. Wherever it hits it can't be nice, but just because one area didn't receive as much press/news coverage as others I don't think people should shut up about it.
Was in Reading last night & have never seen the river running so high & fast as it is at the moment. Have quite a few family members who are on high flood risk, so we're actually quite glad that people are talking about it & the local authorities are getting their acts together giving warning, especially when some of those family members are elderly.
Personally I just thank fuck I live on top of a dirty great big hill.

I feel really sorry for anyone who has their home flooded, I can't think of anything worse, but what really gets my goat is the woman on the news the other night demanding compensation from the government because her house wasn't insured. One word...TOUGH. You should have thought of that when you decided not to fork out for insurance like the rest of us. God I hate Mondays.

Just said on the news they are evactuating parts of Gloucestershire now the water is exceding 5 feet. The substation has shut down so they are without electricity, they have no fresh water, and they have probably lost a lifetime's worth of memories through damage, not to mention the material possessions. Makes me realise how lucky I am really.
All this and the government is expected to announce today it is rejecting calls to stop building houses on flood plains

Totaly Agree with you liontamer, here when we got flooded we got some people who werent insured saying we need money for our houses!!! Tough i say they dont realy care for their things if they didnt insure them! Ok there are certain people who just get by on what money they have and generaly carnt afford insurance, but they are very rare! What realy hacks me off is that some of these people who aren't insured because they say they carnt afford it, can afford to have sky and the latest football/rugby shirts and they have jewlery hanging from their necks and ears! I think some of these people need to take a reality check and decide whats important, another designer top or insurance!!!!

BTW - the south is actually better than the north, so it's not surprising if it gets proportional more coverage.

has anybody seen the news about all the international aid we are to recieve.. NO. i didn't think so, why is it this country is always first to offer help to other counties yet never recieve any in return when these kind of natural disasters occur over here. it's about time we looked after own own people first. oh and lets build more affordable housing on flood plains so more home owners can suffer the consequences of global warming...

i didn't think so, why is it this country is always first to offer help to other counties yet never recieve any in return when these kind of natural disasters occur over here. Because we don't need international aid and neither should be accept it. Although I'd imagine been flooded-out is not a very pleasant experience, people are not starving to death, dying of disease, and have had not their livelihoods destroyed as a result. Let's get it in perspective. More to the point, we also have insurance in the first world, and anyone living in a flood plain who doesn't have it shouldn't complain. Although one can be extremely sympathetic about the loss of possessions, at the end of the day they can be replaced. oh and lets build more affordable housing on flood plains so more home owners can suffer the consequences of global warming The government is damned if it does, and damned if it doesn't. Everyone whinges about the price of housing which is entirely down to a shortage of it, yet when they announce plans to meet the demand, everyone's still not happy. BTW - none of this wet weather likely has anything to do with global warming, and any categorical attempt to connect the two is little sort of disgraceful and irresponsible sensationalism.
