Another SGP update: Saturday 30th January 2016, 17:33
Triple world champion Nicki Pedersen insists he’s ready to “get even fitter” for 2016 after enjoying some winter downtime.
The Danish international decided to take some time off following the end of his 2015 season and had a break in the Dominican Republic in November.
But the world No.3 got back into action just before the turn of the year, launching his quest to be the fastest and fittest star of the shale. Even at 38, the Odense-born racer is determined to do everything he can to stay ahead of his FIM Speedway Grand Prix rivals.
"I believe this year I will get even fitter. The fitter you can get when you’re older, the better." - Nicki Pedersen He said: “It was important for me to finish off last season and have a rest. I needed a complete rest without doing any training. I’ve done basic training, but I didn’t want to build it up before the end of December.
“Now I feel I have the energy to train really hard and get really, really fit for the coming season.
“I believe this year I will get even fitter. The fitter you can get when you’re older, the better.
“I enjoy myself. I really appreciate my life. I enjoy the fact I can be a speedway rider when it actually used to be my hobby. Now I can make a few quid from it. I respect that and I try to get the best out of it and enjoy my life as best as possible.”
Pedersen certainly enjoyed kicking off his pre-season preparations after opting to hit the gym in Dubai, a favourite destination of his, alongside partner Helene Huttmann – a bikini fitness athlete with her own training regime.
He said: “Spontaneously, two days before New Year’s Eve, I decided to kick off 2016 and start my hard training for the season. I wanted to do this in warm conditions, and that was Dubai.
“We enjoyed the time training. It’s not like me and Helene train together, but we trained in the same gym. She had to train for something and I had to train for something else.
“But at least we spent the time together in the gym, so that was quite nice for sure. We talk about a lot of things and it makes it easier when we have the same ambitions. That’s quite cool.”Attachments:

KING'S Lynn promoter and British Speedway chief Keith Chapman is urging fans cross the country to make a full day of the trip to Norfolk for the FIM Speedway Grand Prix qualifying round on Saturday.
A world-class line-up of riders will do battle to get through to the semi-final stages at King's Lynn's Adrian Flux Arena - and the weather forecast is for a dry, sunny day!
Said Chapman: "We are blessed in this part of the world, I would urge fans from everywhere to come and make a day of it, or even a weekend!
"It's a huge meeting for King's Lynn as a club with some fabulous riders - but it's also an opportunity for fans to enjoy the historic town of Kings' Lynn, plus we're not far away from Sandringham and Wisbech, well worth a visit.
"In King's Lynn there are lovely views by the quay, cafes, bars and restaurants, it has all the ingredients for a perfect day out followed by a terrific night of speedway.
"Fans will be made more than welcome on Saturday night, I'm expecting a great atmosphere and I firmly believe the action will be fast and furious."
Home favourite Robert Lambert will be backed by a bumper crowd against the likes of former Grand Prix stars Kenneth Bjerre, Freddie Lindgren, Hans Andersen and Krzysztof Kasprzak - all looking to secure their place back in the big time in 2017.
Admission is £20 adults, £15 concessions, £5 juniors and Under 5s go free. A special 56-page full colour souvenir programme with a gloss cover and bond racecard will also be available for £4. The action starts at 7.30pm.
