From the SGB website: WORKINGTON have been rocked by the news that winter signing Ty Proctor will not be returning to the UK in March as anticipated.
Proctor’s visa expired last May and in order to return next month the Australian would require a Tier 5 visa, which is more restrictive than the Tier 2 he plans to return on but cannot obtain until he has been out the country for a clear 12 months.
Comets owner Laura Morgan said: “Naturally we are very disappointed at Ty’s decision, as are the fans, and we are currently assessing our options with regard to securing a suitable replacement at this late stage.
“Hopefully we will be in a position to make an announcement in the near future.”Attachments:

WORKINGTON have completed their line-up with the signing of 22-year-old Dane Rasmus Jensen in a loan deal from Plymouth.
Jensen comes into the Comets’ side as a replacement for Ty Proctor following the Australian’s decision to delay his return to the UK.
Club owner Laura Morgan said: “Everyone we have spoken to rates Rasmus very highly. He is also a good friend of Kenneth Hansen, who really thinks that the move to Workington will suit him perfectly, and by having Kenneth and fellow Dane Claus Vissing in our side it will surely help him to settle into his new surroundings.
“It is a big relief to finally fill the blank space in our team, and I will admit it has not been easy, but we are delighted with whom we have secured and we all look forward to seeing him in action as a Comet.”Attachments:

WORKINGTON have now confirmed they will be able to take their place in the SGB Championship this season.
The Comets will go into their 19th successive season of league racing at Derwent Park required a little extra time after this week’s AGM to ensure their future.
Co-promoter Laura Morgan said: “It has been a difficult few weeks for us, as we have had to look at how we do things as well as see how the sport was set to run in 2017.
“This has also necessitated discussions with our stadium landlords, Workington Town Rugby League Club, who have been very helpful and we have established a new way of working together for the benefit of both parties, with only a couple of minor points yet to be sorted.
“Additionally, the sport’s AGM seems to have had a very positive outcome and certainly gives us some hope for the season ahead.
“Consequently, having taken everything into account, we are delighted to confirm that we will take our place in the newly titled SGB Championship come March of next year and we would like to thank everyone that has helped us get to this point.”From the SGB website: ::::::: www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.31562Attachments:

WORKINGTON have confirmed the return of popular Brit Matt Williamson as the first member of their septet for 2017.
The 24-year-old earned the Most Improved Average as well as the Most Bonus Points Award at the Comets’ End of Season night and will now be back at Derwent Park for a third successive season on a reduced 3.58 average.
Club owner Laura Morgan said: "Once we knew that we were running for 2017, Matt was the first rider on the list!
“We all feel that he is now in a position where he can really kick on in 2017 and we are delighted that it will once again be with us.
“Matt is very popular with the supporters and he gives one hundred percent in every race. What was also pleasing in 2016 is that he was picking up points both home and away, which is always the sign of a good rider and Matt has got bags of potential.”

AUSTRALIAN racer Mason Campton has sealed a return with Workington in the 2017 SGB Championship.
The 23-year-old endured a tough spell with the Comets last year, but has been handed another opportunity by the Derwent Park outfit.
Comets co-promoter Steve Whitehead said: "Speedway is a business, and sometimes you have to give your investments time to give you a return, that is one of the major drivers behind giving Mason another shot in 2017.
"We have not changed our mind about his potential; the lad can ride a speedway bike and now that he has sorted his machinery we think he will be a star for us in 2017.
"I only hope that the Comets fans will get behind him and support the team, and our decision."
Campton himself added: "I am stoked to be coming back. I know a lot of people will be thinking I’ve had my chance but I really think I can do it next season.
"I just wanna thank Laura (Morgan - Workington owner) for showing faith, and I promise I will repay her, and hopefully the fans will support me on my return as I will be trying my hardest to score big points for them and help Workington win some silverware."

From the SGB website: :::::: CRAIG Cook is to return to Workington next season as the Comets’ captain and No.1 in the SGB Championship.
Cook will be joined at Derwent Park by Ty Proctor, who is back in British racing after visa issues, whilst Adam Roynon stays with the club and Rob Shuttleworth makes his debut at second-tier level at reserve.
The Comets have now completed their 2017 line-up as they had already announced the signings of Thomas Jorgensen, Mason Campton and Matt Williamson.
Owner Laura Morgan said: “To have Craig leading us from the number one position next season is fantastic, and everyone has welcomed him back with open arms.
“I know that a lot of supporters wanted to see him back but probably didn’t think it would happen, but it has and it has given everyone connected with the club a huge lift.
“We are very happy with the side that we have put together and everyone is capable of improving their average.
“Adam will benefit from having had an injury-free 2016 and being able to start the new season where he left off. Ty Proctor is very keen to make up for lost time and young Rob Shuttleworth will get plenty of help and advice from the more experienced team members.”

From the SGB/BSPA website: ::: WORKINGTON’S long-term main team sponsors Thomas Armstrong Limited will return in 2017 for an eleventh successive season.
The locally-based construction company first came on board at Derwent Park in 2004 and have been team sponsors in all but one year since then, whilst their involvement with individual Comets riders dates back to 1999 with club legend Carl Stonehewer.
Workington owner Laura Morgan said: “It is fantastic news to have Thomas Armstrong back on board as our main sponsor for 2017.
“The support that Keith Denham and his business give us over the season is invaluable to our operation and he is clearly very passionate about the sport. It is great that we get to see him down at Derwent Park enjoying his speedway with his family on race-nights.
“Keith Denham has been involved with the Comets as a sponsor or a promoter since the sport returned to the town in 1999 and for him to continue his support, and for us to have the backing of such a high profile local company, is great news.”
