Garrity Wins Bronze in U-21 Final
British U-21 Final
(Cradley; Tuesday, April 15th 2014)
1st Josh Bates
2nd Adam Ellis
3rd Jason Garrity
Silver Ski Rocket Jason Garrity finished third in the British U-21 Final staged by Dudley at Monmore Green, the second year running that the young star had finished in the same position.
Normally a rostrum spot is a cause for celebration, but Garrity was instead said by team manager John Sampford to be “distraught and in tears” afterwards, having been excluded in the title decider after a first bend tangle with Adam Ellis when he was held to have leaned in on Ellis and caused both to fall. The decision meant an unhappy climax to Garrity’s U-21 quest both on the night and in future as he will be too old to compete in the event in 2014.
It was the Rye House star’s second exclusion of the meeting – he had been disqualified earlier after a three-way collision in Heat 16 – but he still marched past the main programme with 10 points and duly won his Semi-Final run-off to set up the Grand Final show-down.
Josh Bates was the surprise Championship winner, with Adam Ellis – who will visit Rye House on Sunday with Ipswich on Easter Sunday – collecting silver, ahead of Garrity and Stefan Nielsen (who was excluded in the first attempt to run the Grand Final).
Scorers (main 20 heat programme):
Adam Ellis 13, Stefan Nielsen 13 (both straight to Grand Final), Joe Jacobs 12, Ashley Morris 11, Josh Bates 11, Jason Garrity 10 (qualified for Semi-Final), Kyle Howarth 8, Tom Perry 7, James Shanes 7, Marc Owen 6, Dan Greenwood 6, Jack Kingston 5, James Sarjeant 4, Connor Coles 3, Ryan Terry-Daley 1, Danny Phillips 1 (Reserve), Connor Mountain 1 (Reserve), Nathan Greaves 0
Semi Final (first two to Grand Final):
Jason Garrity, Josh Bates, Joe Jacobs, Ashley Morris
Grand Final:
Josh Bates, Adam Ellis, Jason Garrity (fex). Stefan Nielsen (fex)
