Eastbourne 34, Kent 56 (Good Friday Chase, first leg)
Scorers:
Eastbourne: Kyle Hughes 3, Richard Andrews 6, Jake Knight (pictured) 7+2, Georgie Wood 7, Ben Hopwood 8, Nick Phillips 0, Charley Powell 3.
Kent: Luke Bowen 11, Luke Clifton 3+1, Danny Ayres 13, David Mason 7+1, James Shanes 10+1, Danno Verge 5, Jack Thomas 7+1.
There was also bad news as Kyle Hughes has gone to hospital with a suspected broken left ankle.
He reared and fell while leading his second race, having been a clear-cut winner of heat one.
Eastbourne IT first Eagles team manager Glenn Martin described it as a disappointing result.
He said: "We had a few gremlins and losing Kyle after two of his races was not good.
"It is a learning curve. The boys have got to have some track time but we knew it was going to be hard.
"It was disappointing to lose because we are not used to it. The only way is."
Martin said it was not clear how serious the injury was to Kyle.
"He had a lot of pain in the bottom half of his leg. To start with he thought it was bad. He has gone home and will got to hospital there.
"I will know more later."
It was Eastbourne's first defeat at Arlington since they joined the National League last year.
The second leg is at Kent tonight.
Joe Jacobs comes in as a guest for Hughes.
It was announced during the meeting at Arlington that Kelsey Dugard has signed for the Isle of Wight.Attachments:

From the SGB website: :::::::::: GEORGIE Wood has become the first signing for Eastbourne ahead of the 2017 season.
Wood will be going into his third year with the Eagles in the National League, and team boss Connor Dugard believes his rapid improvement since his debut in the sport in 2015 will see him also gain recognition at higher levels.
Dugard said: “Georgie put nearly two points on his starting average again this year. Building the team around him was a no-brainer.
“Whatever the point limit is Georgie is in all of our plans. If he makes the progress he has I wouldn't be surprised if he is riding in the Championship next year, let alone guest bookings in the Premiership.”
The Eagles have also confirmed 2016 skipper Jake Knight will not be back at Arlington, as he is to take time out of the sport.
Knight said: “It has been a seriously hard decision but with work commitments I cannot put all my effort into my racing and with other things going on as well I'm very sad to say I will not be back.”Attachments:

From the SGB Press Release: ::::: MARK Baseby has been named as Eastbourne’s new No.1 for the 2017 season.
Baseby makes the move to Arlington from the Isle of Wight, with the Eagles also confirming the signing of Connor Coles alongside captain Georgie Wood in the heat-leader department.
Eastbourne boss Connor Dugard said: “Mark guested for us a couple of times last year and just like Georgie and Colesy he gives 110 per cent every time.
“He only rode Arlington twice last year and he showed how good he is round our circuit.
“I've built the team very much like last year with three potential No.1s in Mark, Georgie and Colesy.”

From the SGB website: :::::: EASTBOURNE have made Charley Powell their fifth signing for the 2017 season.
Eagles boss Connor Dugard has confirmed Powell will start at reserve alongside youngster Tom Brennan, with the club believing a strength-in-depth approach will prove successful.
Dugard said: “Last year, when we rebuilt the team, we were out-and-out top-heavy and that made us quite vulnerable in the middle order and at reserve.
“A lot of the other teams are putting two 3-pointers at reserve. We have one (Brennan).
“Charley comes in on a 4.05 and we believe he can put at least a point on that average. A couple of clubs approached us wanting to use him, including the likes of Cradley.”Attachments:

From the SGB website:
KELSEY Dugard is to return to Eastbourne next season after a year away at the Isle of Wight. Dugard missed out on a team spot with the Eagles in 2016 and brother Connor – the club’s manager – says next year he must kick on in the sport. Said Connor Dugard: “I'll be one of the first to admit I didn't think he was up to it, and at times I have told him where he's at as opposed to where he thinks he's at. “In fairness I look at his average and it has gone down, however, the league was harder last year and he did ride at No.2 so that was fair enough and he didn't actually crash as much as he did in the previous year. “We have a deal with Kelsey with regards to his fitness and bike maintenance which has been a major problem in the past. However, he has promised us that will change. “He really has to crack on this year and establish himself at this level, as riders that started at the same time as him really have progressed massively in the past two seasons.” Attachments:

From the SGB website: EASTBOURNE have completed their line-up for next season with the capture of Adam Extance.
The former Buxton rider is making a comeback to the National League after missing the 2016 campaign due to a knee injury.
Eagles boss Connor Dugard said: “I know Adam had many offers from other clubs and we appreciate that he will be trekking down each week but he says he's up for it and we are willing to give him that chance.
“He's definitely got ability and hopefully with the help from Dad and everyone else we can get the most out of Adam.”

EASTBOURNE have been boosted by an extension of their main team sponsorship deal with Sussex company IT First.
The tie-up will go into a third season having begun when the Eagles entered the National League in 2015 - and have since won four trophies, although the league title itself has eluded them.
Paul Goldsmith of IT First said: “As a life-long fan and being heavily involved in two of the best seasons in the club’s more recent history, I feel we still have some unfinished business.
“I'm committed, and right beside Martin and Connor (Dugard) once more in pursuit of the League title, here's to another exciting season.”Attachments:
