SCOTT Nicholls has cancelled his birthday party to turn the clock back 14 years!
The five-times British Champion had planned a delayed family night out to coincide with yesterday’s (Sunday) 32nd birthday.
But he has agreed to put any celebrations on hold to help out Peterborough as a guest replacement for injured skipper Niels-Kristian Iversen.
The in-form Great Britain star will take over the number one race jacket as the Readypower Panthers aim to complete a quick-fire double against the reigning Elite League champions.
Peterborough smashed Wolverhampton 57-36 to record their biggest win of the season at the East of England Showground on Friday night.
They travel to the Midlands with Nicholls forming a double-edged spearhead with Swedish Grand Prix winner Kenneth Bjerre who was not only unbeaten against Wolves but also lowered the track record to become the first man to complete four laps of the Showground under 59 seconds.
Nicholls actually started his professional career with the Panthers, riding in 21 matches in 1994 before returning to then parent track Ipswich.
He’s back at Foxhall Heath this year and in the form of his life, climbing up into the Elite League top five averages, jostling with Bjerre.
Team boss Trevor Swales said: “When I first asked if Scott would guest for us he said he had a birthday party planned and would have to talk to his partner.
“He came back and said he would do it which was terrific news for us as we now have two of the league’s top scorers in our side.”
Wolves are smarting after Friday’s defeat and have vowed to take revenge as they defend their 100% home record.
They’ve already knocked over six teams, including runaway leaders Poole, and have picked up 14 points out of 15, Eastbourne running them closest before going down 44-46.
Swales added: “There’s no doubt on their own track they are a totally different proposition to on the road. So Friday’s result will mean absolutely nothing.”
The introduction of Nicholls is the only change to the Peterborough line-up as doubling up reserve Linus Eklöf has had to cry off with a neck injury which ruled him out of Premier League King’s Lynn’s weekend visit to Edinburgh.
New number eight Craig Cook, who made a sensational debut with two wins out of four starts on Friday, continues to deputise.
