Just one of the many little anomalies, that makes sport so different!!! The reason why a 3 day event is on for 4 days, is because the first 2 days are taken up with the dressage phase, obviously a 10 minute test per horse, with upwards of 50 horses is too many to fit into 1 day, whereas the cross country and show jumping phases can be completed in 1 day each, therefore taking 4 days to complete.....understand But obviously the main reason, is to annoy the non-horsey type people who insist in living nearby to those lovely estates where we like to congregate in our 100,000's to watch the events

Fair enough, the cross country is quite a spectacle, and I see the merits of the showjumping in a heptathlon sort of way. I can't fathom the point of the dressage though, and to have two days of it seems a bit disproportional. I seem to remember they got rid of the erm.. pointless point-to-point parts of 3-day events, so why not save time and do away with the most boring part of it all?
