This Thursday the Ipswich Witches play host to Wolverhampton in the first leg of the Knockout Cup preliminary round, with the return leg taking place at Monmore Green the following Monday.
Wolverhampton have made a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde start to the season, crushing Lakeside home and away to win the Elite Shield by 112 – 74 but themselves suffering a heavy loss away to Poole Pirates, 57 – 35.
However, Wolverhampton and Ipswich traditionally ride well on each other’s circuits so this is a close one to call. The Wolves riders have had more track time than the Witches who have suffered two abandoned matches, but the new shape of the Foxhall track may favour the home side, at least in the early part of the meeting.
Much may depend on the Ipswich reserves, Dawid Stachyra who was flying in the abandoned Good Friday match against Swindon, and Linus Sundstrom who has been returning double figure scores for parent club Rye House in the Premier League.
Ipswich will be looking for a lead of 12-16 points to take to the second leg on Monday April 12th. Start time on Thursday is 7:30pm.
