Wolves top gun Freddie Lindgren has slammed some of the Elite League’s top stars for not taking the Super 7even events seriously.
The Swede, who led the Black Country outfit to play-off final glory against Swindon last term, will almost certainly represent his club in the Elite Riders Championship and Elite League Best Pairs this year.
These events have come under fire in recent seasons following a spate of withdrawals by the top flight’s leading stars in the days prior to the meeting.
But the man who finished first in the Elite League averages last term has called on his rivals to treat the showpieces with the “respect and prestige that they deserve".
He told the Speedway Star: “I speak to the other riders all the time; people must remember we travel all over Europe together with our busy schedules and we talk.
“I know for a fact that some riders have taken the easy way out and stayed at home rather than race in a meeting if they don’t feel up to it, and I feel that is wrong.
“The major events in British racing should be treated with the respect and prestige that they deserve. In my opinion, when I sign a contract to ride in Britain, events like the ERC and the Pairs are part of that.
“If I qualify to ride in them, I ride in them, it’s simple really. But I’ve known a rider here and there make an excuse and ring to pull out.
“It was probably the way I was brought up with my family in speedway. I have always treated it seriously and don’t mess about; I do it properly.
“I have only ever missed meetings in Britain when I have been badly hurt. I hate missing meetings, I love riding my bike and that applies throughout the season – even towards the end when I’ve done over 150 meetings.”
