Feel sorry for teams who have fixtures left after the play-off positions have been decided - it must affect the crowd, and I think these extra "filler" fixtures are trying to remedy that, just so one or two clubs can try and claw back a bit of revenue. Sad times for speedway. I hope it can survive the downturn.

Sad times for speedway. I hope it can survive the downturn. Although a lot of people moaned about the Craven Shield, at least it would have provided competitive racing for non play off teams, and hopefully they will re-consider it at the AGM. Unfortunately many "renting" promoters sign for a certain number of meetings, and in good faith the season ticket holders buy a ticket to get cheaper entry, this year we have only had 19 meetings, so I think the season ticket holders will break even on their meetings this year....might make a few re-think for next season though. 2009 has been a bad year for speedway TBH, and with the credit crunch too, I just hope it hasn't lost more of it's precious fans.

Totally agree about the Craven Shield Badge. Although its the least priority for clubs at the beginning of the season, it was still 1 of only 3 pieces of silverware available. Its the equivalent of the Carling cup in football, knocked by some fans but taken seriously by those out of league contention and knocked out of F A cup.
I know they have to put a few fixtures and you've mentioned the reasons why, but the Poole fixture is a complete non event. Riders riding without a competitive edge, some using it to experiment with machinery, Poole fielding a "select" side to try out a few riders, its utterly pointless unless Ipswich trial a few riders too who they are keen on for next year to see if they are up to the job. Will they?? They should do. They know what the 6 Witches can do, utterly no point in going with the 6 and R/R in this fixture, no point at all.
On the plus side the u25 Test match looks potentially a cracker.

Latest press release:
Ipswich Speedway are pleased to offer a free programme to any fans that present a valid season ticket from any Elite, Premier or National League team for the upcoming Great Britain v Australia U25 Test Match being held at Foxhall Stadium on the 15th October start time 7.30pm. This meeting looks like being the most competitive team meeting of the season in this country, and is an all too rare opportunity to see the mainstay of our National squad in action together. Rob Lyon has certainly made an impact in his first season as National Coach and in picking the Aussies for this test has picked the most exciting and possibly the toughest opposition possible. Commenting on the offer John Louis said, “We are very excited and honoured to be staging a meeting of this calibre and the thought of two such young and determined sides going head to head with National pride at stake is a mouth-watering prospect. We have held admission prices and offered a programme to all regular Speedway fans to encourage as many people as possible to get behind Team Great Britain as they do battle with one of the strongest Nations in World Speedway.”

Weather is looking good for tonight's test match although it may be a tad chilly later on. According to the local paper Darcy is looking forward to a blast around Foxhall so he must have received counselling about it being a 'dangerous track' Suspect Troy will go through the card and Bridger may take out a few fence panels trying to stop him...
