This Thursday Comrade Louis welcomes the Elite League's out-of-form champions the Poole Pirates to the Kremlin in Moscow on Orwell. Who will emerge victorious in the battle of the early season strugglers? Will Tomasz Piszcz manage to upset the mighty Chris Holder, again (I imagine Holder's just sore that Emil Sajfutdinov once again reduced him to "bitch" status on Sunday, while Darcy Ward managed to beat the Russian prodigy)? Will Daniel Davidsson continue his stunningly abysmal run of form away from Wimborne Road? And will Ipswich pick up three Elite League points? All this, but probably not more, since we are talking Comrade Louis, ought to be revealed on Thursday.

Taken from today's Evening Star:
Witches are riding for their places ELVIN KING
Last updated: 23/04/2009 11:45:00
IPSWICH Witches riders will be riding for their long-term futures at Foxhall Stadium when they take on Poole Pirates in the Elite League tonight (start 7.30pm).
Witches skipper Leigh Lanham plans to have a spin after tonight's meeting, and if he comes though okay he will be back in the team for the home fixture against Wolverhampton next Thursday.
Pete Simmons, the Ipswich team manager, said: “If Leigh feels he can hold on after his hand injury he will come back into the team against Wolves.
“This means that a decision will have to be made, and tonight's displays will be taken into account.
“After a slow start to the season the riders are aware of the situation.”
Morten Risager came into the team to replace Lanham on a short-term basis, but with Tobi Kroner and a couple of others struggling to make an impact it remains to be seen who Lanham will replace in a re-declared one to seven.
Poole have struggled this season and suffered a huge home defeat to Coventry last Wednesday. “This makes our two-point home reverse to the Bees look not too bad,” added Simmons.
“But it was still disappointing of course to lose that meeting, and we need points tonight to lift ourselves off the foot of the table.
“Bjarne Pedersen and Chris Holder both ride Foxhall well, and if they score 25 to 30 points between them the rest will not have to come up with too many points to give us problems.
“We failed to get the lads riding well at the same time at Belle Vue on Monday, and the 13-point defeat gives us plenty to do in the home leg of the first round KO Cup tie next month.
“It can be done, but we will need to be at our best - and a win tonight will give the riders a confidence boost.”
The Witches were meant to be riding the return at Poole next Wednesday, but this has been postponed because of Champions League football on television.
Kozza Smith, who suffered a collapsed lung and several broken bones in an opening night crash - the same meeting as Lanham was also taken to hospital - is expected to start riding again in a couple of weeks.
“Carl Wilkinson is doing a great job for us, and we will see how Kozza goes with King's Lynn in the Premier League before calling him back into our line-up,” said Simmons.
Former Witch Paul Hurry has been called out of speedway retirement to ride for 2008 champions Pirates at reserve.
Poole's Neil Middleditch was left disappointed by the Pirates' second-half collapse at Wolverhampton on Monday that left the Pirates without a point from four meetings in six days.
Middleditch said: “Once again we lost our way after getting ourselves into a good position early on. We were in with a chance of taking something from this match, but seemingly fell apart midway through the match when there were only two points between the teams.
“Of course it's a disappointing time for us and our fans, but we haven't given up our hopes of retaining our league title.
“The season has only just started and there is still time for us to rebuild and get back into the championship fight.”
Tonight's line-ups
Ipswich: J Hampel, M Risager, T Kroner, D King, P Swiderski, D Stachyra, C Wilkinson.
Poole: B Pedersen, AN Other, J Screen, D Davidsson, C Holder, T Piszcz, P Hurry.

Poole: B Pedersen, AN Other, J Screen, D Davidsson, C Holder, T Piszcz, P Hurry. No Jankowski tonight? Anyway, this is beginning to look like a potential "banana skin" for Comrade Louis and the boys. If they lose, they'll be more or less a laughing stock. But the Pirates are doing reasonably well away from Wimborne Road - they lost at Coventry by a mere seven points last Friday. And that was after the Bees had humped them good and proper at Poole a couple of days earlier. However, the broad mass of people have Poole down as a joke at the minute and being on the wrong end of a beating from a joke won't be funny for Comrade Louis.

A good solid team performance against TBF a very dispirited and quite frankly poor Poole team. Although Tobi won MoM, must make a special mention for Dawid who really came good tonight, and hopefully he will continue to enjoy his meetings at Foxhall as he did tonight. Poor Wilko really struggled, however by his own admission he has/had 18 meetings this month, and that is a lot of stress/travelling on himself and his machinery, and I would think if Kozza is fit to ride in a couple of weeks as he is hoping Wilko may be given a rest bless him. Leigh had a few laps after the meeting, and a decision will be taken by the weekend whether his hand is yet up to competitive racing, if not Morten will continue. A nice young lad who has fitted in well with us, and although he didn't pull up many trees, he tried damn hard, and won us a few points when we needed them. I honestly feel that to bring out the best in him, a team like ours would work wonders, and hopefully he will find another team place over here once his stint with us is over, as I feel Tobi may have averted the chop by his 2 better performances this week. Danny starts like a train, and looks unbeatable, then by his 3 rd heat his gating goes, one wonders if it's fitness or what Piotr was back to his best after his 1 bad meeting at BV on Monday, and once Jarek woke up business as usual. If we can get all the riders firing at the same time, we have the makings of beating any team TBH, but up until tonight, where just Wilko was struggling, this has not been the case. Next week will be a tough meeting, as Wolves even at their poorest last year nearly beat us, and with PK being supreme round Foxhall we will have to watch ourselves. Forgot to add, Hurry up to his normal tricks, what a plank , fell off on his own and then had a pop at Dawid causing the Foxhall faithfull to give it large to him, then when he was excluded and riding off the track had another go at Dawid, who fortunately just ignored him, best thing really!!!
