Denmark will launch their defence of the Speedway World Cup with the same five riders who won the trophy in 2008. Boss Jan Staechmann has named an eight-man squad for the SWC, but will track Nicki Pedersen, Hans Andersen, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Kenneth Bjerre and Bjarne Pedersen in event one against Sweden, Russia and the Czech Republic at Vojens on July 11. The other three members of his party for the tournament are Mads Korneliussen, Patrick Hougaard and Nicolai Klindt. Staechmann said: "I think our chances are as good as anyone else's. "We're the reigning champions so people will think there's only one way we can go, but we'll be aiming to prove them wrong." speedwaygp.com

Any idea of when teams must be named, is it some time ahead of the meeting or could it be held in secret right up until the first heat?
It's not easy to predict Swedens five... but I would like Ruud to get a place.

The full line up's have been updated on this thread.
Stan James have Denmark at 1/3 to win event 1 and Australia at 9/10 to win event 2, as a double that pays over 6/4, it is an unbelievably outstanding bet and not to be missed.

Really looking forward to seeing this one. Just hope Russia can make it because if they don't I will be in the garden eating worms all week and will be selling my World Cup tickets on Ebay.
Come on Emil ;D

Before you go re-mortgaging the house, please do bear in mind that any team may think it wiser to go to the race-off rather than qualify directly to the final, thus gaining valuable practice time on the Leszno track. Look at Poland in Vojens last year; they outperformed Australia, who had beaten Poland in a run-off in the qualifier at Leszno. I just wouldn't be surprised at a 'surprise' result. Hell, maybe the Poles and Aussies will let Team GB win. Rico

I've also had a bit of the 30/1 on Sweden to win the final, don't think they will but 30/1 is a ridiculous price.

Rico In fairness to the Poles, they did out-perform Australia at Vojens the season before when that track hosted one of the events and then Australia defeated them in the race off in Leszno.

And the score in the final that year was ? My point was mainly the well known knowledge that as a rule going to the race-off enhances ones chances of winning the trophy (as Poland did in 2007#) Rico # assuming that's the year you refer to - I still chuckle at Crumps ef on the line while on double points

I think I am right in saying that last year was the first time the winners didn't come through the race-off since the tournament changed to it's current format.
