Another dismal season awaits for George English and the Byker faithful.

Excellent signing by Newcastle. Seems Craig Branney turned down an offer form Berwick - and Berwick's loss will be Newcstale's gain.

Apparently, the Newcastle Chronical is reporting that the Diamonds have signed Casper Wortmann.

Apparently the Diamonds have signed Trent Leverington. I can't see any official confirmation, but apparently they have. Things aren't looking promising on the banks of the Tyne. Leverington is a decent enough, albeit unimaginative signing.

Certainly if Kenni Larsen rejoins the Diamonds, they will have one rider who can improve immensely.........and there have been rumours of another very promising Dane joining the club, so all is not lost yet.

Two good signings which have rescued what looked a dodgy team for Lord Juul to preside over.

Newcastle Speedway will start their 80th Anniversary season with an 80p admission charge that will be donated to charity. The special "80p for 80 Years" event will take place on the afternoon of Sunday March 15th and will allow supporters the chance to see the new look 2009 Newcastle Sapphire Engineering Diamonds in action along with invited guests.
This unique start to the season will also allow any old supporters of Newcastle Speedway to come back to the sport for just 80p and see what they have been missing as well as offering a chance for any newcomers to get the taste for speedway at a very special rate.
Looking ahead to the event, Newcastle co-promoter Darryl Illingworth said that he hoped that the club's very special offer would prove attractive to supporters old and new.
He said, "Everywhere we go, we hear from people who say that they used to go to speedway when Ivan Mauger or the Owen Brothers were riding. Well, we are throwing our doors open to give them the chance to come back to the sport while benefiting local charity at the same time."
"We are also hoping that people who may have thought about a trip to the speedway will take this unique chance to enjoy our sport when our exciting new look team takes to the track for the first time in serious action."
"Newcastle Speedway has a great history going back to 1929 and we want to get our 80th Anniversary celebrations off to a great start by embracing not only our loyal followers but also those that have supported the club in the past as well as any newcomers to the sport that we can attract."
"The 2009 Diamonds are a young, exciting side that should keep everyone thoroughly entertained throughout this coming season and hopefully add to the long list of honours that this club has brought to the City throughout the 80 year history of the club."
