Here's the latest PR from Buxton:-
Everyone connected with Buxton Hitmen Speedway club have been stunned to hear of the sudden death of young New Zealander Andrew Tree, a rider who had agreed to sign for their Conference League side. Andrew passed away in his sleep on Sunday night.
The 19-year-old from Invercargill on the South Island had been riding bikes since he was 14 and was in the final stages of planning his trip over to race in the UK for the first time. He had raced in the New Zealand Championship on Saturday night and finished a creditable fifth and this was to be his last meeting at home before embarking on the next stage of his speedway career.
With the Conference League clubs allowing one Commonwealth rider into their teams for 2008, Tree contacted Buxton about a team place and was to be given his opportunity to chase his dream. “It was one of the ultimate goals. I was aiming for it next year, but it came up now and I've got to take the chance” he said recently. “I am really excited & looking forward to coming over to join the Buxton team. Thanks to the club for taking their chances in having me but I’m hoping to become a strong asset to the team, you can expect nothing less than 110% from everything I do.”
Buxton’s Promoter Jayne Moss said “In all the correspondence we have had with Andrew, he always sounded so enthusiastic and excited about coming to the UK. On Sunday he told us he was just waiting confirmation of his Visa and that he would be with us at the end of March. It’s hard to take in just what’s happened”.
The Buxton Speedway Promotion and fans send their deepest condolences to Andrew’s family and friends at this time.
