And Nicholls will be riding. From www.speedwayworld.tvORGANISERS of the Ben Fund Bonanza at Sheffield have been pleased to secure the services of Great Britain captain Scott Nicholls. Nicholls will not be racing regularly in the UK this year, but has put his name to the line-up for the showpiece event at Owlerton on March 29. Fellow GP stars Leigh Adams, Jason Crump and Freddie Lindgren are also confirmed starters for a meeting which is being put together by former SCB referee Paul Ackroyd. Nicholls said: "I think it’s good that they are putting a meeting like this on. In the last few years we’ve had some horrible injuries – Lawrence Hare for example, a good friend of mine, now Kim Jansson and others, sadly it’s part of the sport. "But a meeting like this will put some money in the pot - it will benefit a lot of people. "So I am really happy to do the meeting and hopefully with Jason and myself, and a few other high profile names, it will bring a good crowd to raise good money for a good cause."

From www.speedwayworld.tvBarry Briggs has pledged his support for the Ben Fund meeting at Sheffield on March 29. The four-times World Champion spoke with organiser Paul Ackroyd at the recent WSRA dinner in Leicester and has taken the project on board. Briggo feels the event is so important he’s rescheduled his typically hectic diary to make sure he’s at Owlerton for the event. "I will definitely be riding that afternoon," says Briggs. "I’ve re- arranged everything to make sure I’m there because I believe it is such an important event. “I urge every speedway fan to try and make an effort to be there. There is no better cause for speedway than this.” The Ben Fund, which is raising money for the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund, sees Grand Prix stars Jason Crump, Leigh Adams, Scott Nicholls and Fredrik Lindgren all take part.

Aussie ace Davey Watt has been called up into tomorrow's Ben Fund Bonanza meeting at Sheffield. The Eastbourne star, who has made a superb start to the new season, replaces Simon Stead, who has to ride for Polish club Ostrow instead. Ben Fund organiser Paul Ackroyd said: “We are thrilled to have Davey in the field and we hope loads of people turn out to raise valuable money for the fund.” The meeting at Owlerton starts at 3.30pm and includes Grand Prix stars Jason Crump, Leigh Adams, Scott Nicholls and Fredrik Lindgren. This was a thoroughly enjoyable meeting, watched by a large crowd in fabulous sunshine. My choice for performances 'above their station' goes to the very impressive Tai Woffinden and Coventry's Filip Sitera.
Hopefully, this event will become an annual affair as the money goes to a very good cause, which the convoy of wheelchair bound ex-riders sadly highlighted.
Special praise must go to Len Silver who donated a £1,000 Skiing Holiday as 1st prize in the raffle, and was won by Lawrence Hare!!!

Returning to this one, it's interesting to note that Simon Stead was "forced" to ride in an open meeting at his home track in Poland (Ostrow), yet, having seen unSteady during that meeting, Ostrow seem to have decided that they don't want him - he hasn't ridden for the club in their first two fixtures in Poland.
