Ricky Ashworth has been confirmed as Sheffields second signing and he has been named captain.

This is beginning to look like an awful team . Could be the worst Sheffield side since the mid-nineties .

This is beginning to look like an awful team . Could be the worst Sheffield side since the mid-nineties . Paulco - I'm not so sure. Machin is an expert at PL team-building. Chris Mills is rumoured to be heading towards Owlerton and a reserve pairing of Mills & Auty (if that's where they start from - it looks like a solid side so it could well be) would be formidable. I was in the pits at Scunthorpe in late 2007, and Auty hangs on Eric Boocock's every word - the guy is a mentor to him. The move to Sheffield could be the best thing that's ever happened to Auty - I couldn't believe how poor he was throughout 2008, because before that I had him down for big things.

Genghis i know you're biased where Mills is concerned , but i'm sorry i've never really rated him . Auty faces a huge season , he has to show a great deal of improvement this season after treading water last year . Hall can be exciting to watch at times , but carries too much baggage and i personally wouldn't want him ever to ride for Glasgow . Ashworth isn't an out and out number 1 . Will be ok most of the time round Owlerton , but away from home will struggle to carry the team . Parsons is just an average PL second string , nothing more . Can't see Sheffield doing anything this year unless the pull something spectacular out of the fire in their last couple of signings .

But I reckon Sheffield could surprise a few next season. It'll be clearer once their and everyone else's line-ups are complete, but as usual the only proof will come once the season starts. And Millsy, yes you're right, he is one of my very favourite riders. Brilliant rider to watch and a great chap as well. He and Craig Branney were brilliant leaders of the 2005 OSMA team - and they were an absolute pleasure to deal with.

Confirmed that Millsy has signed for Sheffield for 2009. He'll also be doubling up with Lakeside.
