Glad we have Spud back i genuinely feel he will be as big a shock from #5 as he was from #7 Number 5? What makes you think Aaron will take that position in the team? The number 5 generally rides with the reserves so I don't see that being Aaron.

I'd expect Matthew Wethers to ride at No 5, with the Monarchs lining up something like:
1..R Fisher 2..A Summers 3..T H Jonasson 4..A Tully 5..M Wethers 6..M Rajkowski 7..S Stoddart

I've never bought into the theory that being at No 2 is a tough position and this coming season, with your top rider being mandated to ride at No 1, makes it easier. He'd ride alongside Ryan Fisher, who many - myself included - are tipping to be one of the PL's top guys, for three rides and against the opposing No 2 and the two No 7s in his other ride. I'd certainly look at having Summers at No 2, especially at home. I might consider moving him away from home, where one can expect - perhaps - a little more consistency from Jonasson. So, maybe move Tully to No 2 for away trips, with Summers partnering Jonasson.

Going back to the discussion about Jonasson, he's been interviewed in a Swedish newspaper today. He says he does expect to get farmed out from his Elitserien club (Vetlanda) to the Allsvenskan (Valsarna) for a few meetings, and basically he's looking forward to it. But he says that because of the way the Elite league is structured he's unlikely feature in the team alongside Peter Ljung, and that as Peter isn't riding in Britain this year, he thinks he (Ljung) will get nod for the majority of meetings ahead of him (Jonasson). We shall see. Here's the article for anyone who wants to read it: www.vf.se/Sport/Speedway/Thomas-H-Jonasson-kor-for-fyra-klubbar-090128.aspx

He would have more say if he actually thought out his signings

Anyway, as things stand Jonasson appears to have a Polish club (and all previous evidence suggests Poland comes ahead of Edinburgh), two Swedish clubs (SVEMO will ensure that their agreement with the BSPA sees Jonasson lining up whenever his Swedish clubs demand), two British clubs and all his various international commitments. Still, the good news is that John Campbell compiles the PL fixture lists, so all Edinburgh's Sunday commitments will magically tie in with occasions when Poland has free weekends, just as Edinburgh's trip to the Isle of Wight in 2008 was on the one free Tuesday in the Swedish calendar.

just as Edinburgh's trip to the Isle of Wight in 2008 was on the one free Tuesday in the Swedish calendar. Technically there aren't any "free" Tuesdays - they work in reserve days for rain-offs after every block of meetings. I personally think Jonasson has underestimated how often he'll be required in Sweden. He's young and popular (one of the "choice" riders), and was recalled for the Allsvenskan play-offs even though he wasn't originally down to ride last year. As I said, we shall see.

I think, dearest, that you'll find they have a week off in the top flight for the SWC. That's the week Edinburgh visited the Isle of Wight last season.

He would have more say if he actually thought out his signings What makes you imply that he doesn't think out his signings? He signed for his home town club in Sweden who race in the strongest league in World speedway, which sounds like a perfectly good move. He signed for one of the top Polish clubs, getting the opportunity to learn from THE ultimate master of a speedway bike, which sounds like a perfectly good move. He has signed for a UK EL club as a secondary DU rider to gain experience of the tracks in that league when available, which sounds like a good move. He has signed for a PL club who offer him far more matches than any of the other leagues, a bigger diversity of track sizes and a proven willingness to allow him to put other commitments ahead of theirs, which sounds ideal as well. Where do you see a lack of thought in any of those signings?

The fact that they are all to be done in one season is where he didnt think it out. I remember something being said about him hating spending his life in departure lounges of airports to go and give himself the exact same scenario.

There is nothing I have heard that suggests anything other than Thomas and his Father are very carefully taking care of his career. OK, he doesn't like hanging around airports but who likes everything about their their job? It's just something that he has to learn to accept as part of the life of a modern speedway rider. Simple fact is, if he was gonna drop anything from his commitments, the chances are that Edinburgh would have been at the top of his list of what to drop....so I, for one, am thankful that he is trying to take the airport hell in his stride.

I think you will find that financially and in terms of gaining more experiance dropping the DU role would be the best choice. Another season at Edinburgh and he will have EL clubs lining up for his signiture. He doesnt need the DU role for anything other than track experiance. The sooner he is away from the Dale the better thats all i can say.
