The Speedway Star is reporting that long-time Sheffield Tiger Ben Wilson is looking to kick-start his shale-shifting career with a move away from Owlerton. Wilson, 22, seems to feel that he's become a "back ground" player with the Tigers and that a change of track would revive his stuttering career. And promoter Neil Machin's comments that Wilson has been "part of the fixtures and fittings" seems to confirm that. If it happens, it'll probably mean a more than usually active winter for the Sheffield Tigers, who do have one of the strongest asset bases in the Premier League, but always seem to stick with the same semi-reliables year after year. Wilson, Ashworth and Cooper all seem to be stalled, yet up to now content at Sheffield. Will Wilson be the start of an exodus?

If Wilson wants a future in the sport , then this is a move in the right direction . I know that he has been unhappy with the state of the Sheffield track this season and a season or two away from Owlerton could be the making of him .

Yes, his thoughts on the Sheffield track this season are included in the article. He states: "The track at Sheffield this season has been way too slick. They know how we like it, with a bit of grip and yet we turn up week in and week out and it's slick again." The few times that I've seen Wilson have all been at Shielfield Park and he either wins or finishes last. Very rare you find anything but 3s and 0s on his scorecard.

If Ben Wilson wants to remain a speedway rider he has to move away to a different kind of track. He has been far too long at Sheffield and in doing so he has lost the talent he showed when he first burst on the scene.

Definately needs to move, going stale at Sheffield.
Like Subedei says, he is very inconsistant - probably the most inconsistant rider in the league.

There's 3 or 4 riders which need to step away from Sheffield in any bid to make their stuttering careers go further.

Ashworth, Cooper, Wilson. Think Compton is there for life ( ) and Parsons better make sure he doesn't spend too long there.

Think Compton is there for life ( ) I think it's obvious that the greater Compton is content with his career the way it is - apparently he is financially secure outside speedway, which is more or less a hobby for him.

Truth be told, the greater Compton hasn't had the best of seasons, so perhaps it isn't a huge shock. But it'll mean huge changes at Sheffield next season. Compton has been, at times, a controversial rider, but he's been good value for the Tigers over the years and it'll be a shame to see him bow out. He perhaps never fulfilled his potential, but he always had other fish to fry. Best wishes to him in the future.
