Must win meeting for Witches 26 June 2008 | 11:55 MIKE BACON SPEEDWAY
Ipswich Evening Star Witches v
Peterborough Panthers

IPSWICH Evening Star Witches manager Pete Simmons has admitted tonight's Elite League clash with Peterborough is a “must win” meeting.
The Suffolk side have slipped down the table after a lack of meetings and two defeats on the bounce. And tonight, any slip-up against the Panthers will leave the Witches reeling.
For Simmons it is proving a frustrating time, with decisions both on and off the track not going the Witches way. And he knows the Suffolk side have reached a crucial point in their season.
“We must win tonight, simple as that,” he said. “If we lose we are in danger of slipping out of the play-off zone.
“Peterborough will be dangerous just as all sides are proving this year. They won at Poole and have riders who know our place well.
“But we beat them well last time they were here and we can do so again.”
One Panthers rider who is capable of doing well at Foxhall is Danny King, an Ipswich asset, who is in his second season on loan to the Panthers.
“The last couple of meetings at Ipswich haven't been the best for me but I do like riding there,” he said.
“I think at the moment we have a chance of winning anywhere as the results are all over the place, everyone seems to be losing at home this year; we just need everyone to chip in with good points we are more than capable.”
The Witches will be using rider replacement again tonight, but Simmons admits that facility isn't working and it is likely to be a case of when, and not if, a replacement rider for the injured Chris Louis, is found.
“There are people out there who could come in for us, but it isn't quite that straightforward,” Simmons said.
“But I can assure Witches fans we are fully aware it isn't doing the job we want.”
Peterborough co-promoter Mick Brately said: “I personally always look forward to visiting Foxhall, as there are many people who work and support the club, who I class as friends, following the couple of seasons I spent there with Hans (Andersen). It is possible for us to get a result, but to do this we need to get off to a positive start.”
Ipswich have the same team that lost at Belle Vue, while Tomas Suchanek comes in for Ty Proctor at reserve for the Panthers.
Teams
Ipswich: 1 P Swiderski, 2 T Kroner, 3 J Hampel, 4 R/R, 5 R Miskowiak, 6 S Johnston, 7 C Schramm.
Peterborough: 1 H Andersen, 2 H Bager, 3 K Bjerre, 4 C Vissing, 5 D King, 6 M Risager, 7 T Suchanek
I realise that Rusty Harrison is at No 7

There will be a short feature on Hans on tonight's (Thurs 26/06) BBC Look East, between 6:30pm and 6:45pm, if you are going to Ipswich, now you know why you should have got Sky Plus ;D For those who live outside of the Eastern region, it is possible to view this on Sky, I'm sure someone with better knowledge of these things than me, will let us know.

Finished 54:38 with disappointing showings from the Panthers' top two, and Bager is still not doing his job. Apart from Schramm, the rest of the Ipswich team scored paid double figures, although they each had five rides, with R/R still in operation. And Schlein did guest for Swiderski, scoring 11+1 - an ample replacement.

A good confidence building performance against really poor opposition. Thank God our Tobi is back ;D, was getting a bit worried about him TBH. And Swidders came to the office tonight, I'm assuming to bring his certificate, and just to let you know he has a bad case of tonsillitus, and looked really poorly ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) bless him. Oh and nearly forgot, Puzon was in attendance too, think he came over for some treatment on his ankle, was lovely to see his smiling face in the pits again. And an excellent guest in Rory Schlein, thank you Rory

Great win but the opposition were not really at the races tonight... Back to third in the league table - who said we were heading for the Premier League next year ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

from the Peterborough ET
Panthers ace Andersen must take most of the blame
captain Hans Andersen was ordered to shoulder the majority of the blame for the club's latest away setback. The star rider endured a miserable night during a 54-38 Elite League B defeat at Ipswich, managing only a tactical-ride boosted eight points.
And team boss Trevor Swales could not hide his disappointment at the performance of his skipper.
He said: "No team is going to win a meeting when the number one only scores six points.
"I have always said that Hans is only human and he is allowed a bad meeting, but we are getting too many of them this season.
"It is becoming a bit of a habit and for once I am very disappointed with him. The buck has to stop somewhere and I'm afraid a lot of it is with Hans after this meeting.
"Someone of Hans' calibre should be getting between 10 and 12 points from five rides against this sort of opposition, not six.
"Form comes and goes while class is permanent, but at the moment Hans seems to have lost his way a little bit."
British GP-bound Andersen felt he was let down by equipment at Foxhall and has vowed to return to top form when Panthers hit the road again on Monday when travelling north to Belle Vue.
Andersen said: "I had a couple of engines my tuner recommended I tried on slick tracks but it didn't exactly go as I hoped. The first one blew to bits and the second one was over-spinning.
"It is unfortunate that we lost the meeting but I was not the only man to have a bad night. I will be out to prove it was a one-off for myself when we go to Belle Vue."
Improving reserve rider Morten Risager produced one of his best performances for the club to top score with 9+1 last night.

Good job the scouts weren't watching last night, that would have shattered a few illusions.
