Reading Mike Hunter's article in this morning's Speedway Star , i get the impression that the Monarchs are beginning to tire of these endless under-21 competitions . Once again the Monarchs will be missing the on-form William Lawson and the invisible speedway rider because it's the under 21 world cup qualifier this week . Under 21 world cup What utter nonsense . That really is a competition too far i'm afraid . Also this weekend Glasgow will be without new signing Anders Andersen because it's the European Championship qualifiers. In these days of Grand Prixs and Grand Prix qualifiers , the European Championships have about as much relevance as the Bordernapolis in the grand scheme of things . That's two competitions that can be avoided boys and stop disrupting our speedway with Mickey Mouse events .

Agreed, and even though some will argue that the Under-21 World Cup will give the lads more experience....they should just have a couple of test matches at the end of the season like they have done previously with England and Australia.

I agree as well! Eastbourne are without Bridger and Gustafsson this weekend because of it as well. And Gustafsson has missed a meeting for the Under-19 European Team Championship

The thing is, it's not like the youngsters can't enter the "main" competition - isn't Lewis in both the GP qualifiers AND the under 21 world championship rounds?

In these days of Grand Prixs and Grand Prix qualifiers , the European Championships have about as much relevance as the Bordernapolis in the grand scheme of things. The plethora of European Championships was inevitable as soon as the UEM was created, and then realised it needed something to do. It's particularly daft in speedway given that practically all speedway activity was in Europe in the first place.
