And this meeting ended up with a win for the Islanders (49:44). Once again, Hts 2, 8 and 14 scuttled the hopes of Workington, with the Comets conceding a 4-2 and two 5-1s. All in all, the Comets provided 10 of the 15 last places. But Daniel Nermark went through the card unbeaten, scoring 17+1 from 5. For the Islanders everyone except Andrew Bargh and Krzysztof Stojanowski scored decent enough points, with Chris Holder's younger brother James perhaps taking the honours with 9+2 from 5 rides.

A real shame that Craig Branney got injured at Telford - it seems to have completely ruined Workington's season.

I admire the Workington management for going out and getting a replacement for Craig Branney. But, truthfully, they'd have been better off using Rider Replacement, which was made available to them after Branney's injury. As things stood at the start of the season, I think Branney was 4th in their averages, so that would've meant Nieminen getting an extra ride and now Stonehewer. It might be just that one extra ride, but a few times this season that ride could just have made the difference between winning and losing.
