So this Saturday is our re-arranged fixture at the home of drunkeness and thuggery . I have managed to negotiate a compromise with Mrs Paulco to hold our 28th anniversary celebrations on Friday to enable me to take my rightful place on the terraces on Saturday . A tall order from my not so mighty Tigers to get a result on Saturday , but duty dictates i have to be there . The thing is though , a heavy defeat at the hands of the Comets or putting up with the morons on the back straight isn't what worries me about Saturday . The Comets have the actor who plays David Platt , in Coronation Street , posing for photos and signing autographs on Saturday . There are an awful lot of stairs from the top of the terraces down to the exit at Derwent Park .

You've never experienced the back-straight at Workington then . ;D The trick is, young paulco, to place yourself strategically next to Liz's young chap.

You've never experienced the back-straight at Workington then . ;D Correct, I have never had that dubious experience, on the other hand, I am a Coventry Kid who used to work in Birmingham. Like trying to run through treacle. Friend of mine went to a game at Berwick as the guest of a friend who supported some other Scottish football team. He described the away accommodation as Stalag Luft III. Enjoy old Barbaria town. I have been there twice on business, both times the place was shut.

I like Workington - in particular, I like the Waverley Hotel, the focal point of the whole of Workington on a Saturday night after the speedway.
The Workington fans used to love Oxford - firstly, because we went there in an inter-league challenge and took Leigh Adams there, and then because we had the Branneys (great chaps) riding for our CL team.

Actually up in this northern outpost , Workington is one of the shorter trips . Anyway we were truly awful last night . Out-gated , out -ridden - you name it we were outed it . The new shape of Derwent Park looks quite good , once they buy enough shale to put down it will be even better . Slickness of Rye proportions last night . All quiet on the back straight , couldn't move for polis and stewards though . Really big crowd there last night , surely it was the thought of seeing the Messiah ride rather than some skinny little runt from Coronation Street putting in a public appearance .

couldn't move for polis and stewards though Unbelievable I can't remember when I last saw police at a meeting. The last time I remember Police at Brandon was at THAT British Final when Kenny Carter had to be lifted onto his bike with the special boot on his broken leg. I drove the pre meeting presentation wagon and he sat on his own on the tailgate. There were a couple of officers and they were clearly on a jolly. All they had to do was stop kids climbing in over the back fence when the National Anthem was played. It was also the only time my elder sister ever came to Brandon only because I had four reserved seat tickets courtesy of Rugby Autocar. So what on earth sort of place is Derwent Park to require the Polis? I must lead a very sheltered life.

It was the kiddy-on polis . The ones with the blue caps - support polis or something like that . One was a polis woman and very attractive she was too . Funniest part of the night though - Workington have a lassie announcer who reads the times out . She has the most squeakiest , high pitched voice you ever heard in your life . The comedians on the back straight were having a field day ( not me i might add :

Ah yes, Plastic Police, we get those around here, about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Know nothing and no authority, and generally look silly, little kids in big uniforms. I would have thought the Derwent Park faithful would tear them limb from limb and eat them raw. Funniest part of the night though - Workington have a lassie announcer who reads the times out . She has the most squeakiest , high pitched voice you ever heard in your life . The comedians on the back straight were having a field day Still preferable to Peter York.
