So against the odds (well it was according to most before the meeting) The Racers continued their 100% away record in th PT with a win at the Oak Tree Arena. Happiness as they say is 42-47 Fun & game tonight by all accounts with Jason Doyle being kicked out of the meeting for throwing a punch at Tom P Madsen after a collision on one of the straights. Doyle was deemed to be cause of the stoppage by all accounts Readings gain from this counter balanced with Tom P being withdrawn from the meeting, the balance then swinging back in favour of the Rebels with Herman also withdrawing from the meeting in his 3rd programmed ride - he pulled out of his 2nd ride with mechanical problems. So after what most thought would be an easy passage thru to the semi finals for Somerset, the group is still there for the taking and will be decided by the home & away meetings against IOW next week.

That's shocking behaviour from Doyle and good to see that the referee handed down swift punishment on the night - it'll be interesting to see how the Somerset management handle the situation.

Actually worse than it first seemed. Doyle punched Tom P whilst he still lay stricken on the track. Fined £300 & kicked out of meeting with no replacement allowed for his remaining rides.

Judging from comments on the BSF it looks like Somerset supporters want to transfer Andy Valente back to Poole. Good to see the majority of Somerset fans condemning the actions of Doyle - I hope that the SCB will throw the book at him.

As Orion has stated, Poole's gain is Somerset's loss. Have the rules changed Sube? I thought if the Ref impossed punishment (and he impossed the max he could) the SCB/BSPA couldnt take any further action agains the rider

Oh, don't ask me about the rule book, it's such a pointless document that I've never really bothered with it. I guess the referee will have to make a report to the SCB the meeting and that action might arise out of that. And this really is an extraordinary incident.

I know when Stonehewer attacked Anders Henrikson whilst he lay on the track at Smallmead a few years back, then moved onto attacking an elderly track man & most horrendously Roary the Lion the authorities couldn't impose any further punishment as the ref had dished out the maximum pentaly to him at the meeting.

I remember when Geoff Pusey tried to have a "discussion" with some critical Middlesbrough fans at Berwick in 1985. A member of the track staff pulled him away and Pusey tried to headbutt him. Not sure if any action was taken against Pusey, since almost everyone in the stadium was laughing their heads off.

www.getreading.co.uk/sport/s/4199_england_rider_in_smallmead_bustupUnfortunately there's no mention of the altercation with Roary in the report, but I do remember now, Stonehewer did actually receive a suspended 12 month ban from the SCB following the incident as well as the fine from the ref. Doyle could still be in further trouble after his outburst tonight then.

Doyle punched Tom P whilst he still lay stricken on the track. Absolutely no excuse for that under any circumstances. Any rider doing that should get a 12 month ban with no right of appeal. Let's hope that when Tom P recovers he 'bumps' into Doyle in a dark alley somewhere.

There was an instance when Boston refused to ride at Mildenhall in the CL KO Cup final , James Cockle received a three match ban which was suspended . He was then involved in an altercation at Wimbledon ( i think ) which led to him being banned from Glasgow's opening 3 meetings of the 2005 campaign . So the authorities can take further action if and when neccessary .

Well, Doyle's apologised, sort of: www.british-speedway.co.uk/news.php?extend.1413So, that's an apology to everyone connected with Somerset for getting thrown out of the meeting, but it doesn't look like there's one for Madsen in there. I think the book needs to be thrown at this odious thug.

Ignore me though, I was talking out of my arse as I did later remember that the SCB imposed a 12 month suspended ban on Stoney after his fight with Anders & our mascot.
