After a thumping home win over Glasgow, the Edinburgh Monarchs take their unbeaten record down to Barbaria to face the Workington Comets - it should be a fascinating encounter. Workington were a top tip for Premier League honours this season, but they haven't started too well. Or, to be more exact, certain members of the team haven't started too well. Daniel Nermark, Kauko Nieminen and Carl Stonehewer, the Comets' heatleaders, have had a superb start to the season, but they've received scant support from the rest of the team. Edinburgh, on the other hand, appear solid all the way down the line. As I said, it should be a fascinating encounter. I suspect the Comets will win, but not by much.

on the BSPA website it says it's Workington v Glasgow... Well, that's the BSPA and their press officer for you. It was scheduled to be Workington versus Glasgow, but in order to more or less complete the important part of the Northern section of the Premier Trophy it has been changed to Workington versus Glasgow. Glasgow will now visit Barbaria on April 19th, 2008 (a date the Monarchs, for whatever reason, couldn't make), in place of Newcastle.

And in spite of rain and sleet this meeting did reach a conclusion, with Workington taking a narrow win over the Monarchs (48-45). Again most of Workington's points came from their powerful heat leader trio (30 points), but 18 points from the lower order is an improvement, although how much track conditions played is open to question. For Edinburgh it was another case of solid scoring throughout the team.

Haines will come good for Workington and will soon be banging in good scores. I can't disagree with that.............Joe's average is equal to the more experienced Charles Wright, and in excess of John Branney's..............a great prospect for the future!!!

No doubt he will bang in a big score around the STMP aswell Was great to watch him for a season with the Bays (now the Cubs) in 2006.

I can't disagree with that.............Joe's average is equal to the more experienced Charles Wright, and in excess of John Branney's..............a great prospect for the future!!! There's far too much pressure being put on Charles Wright. His average for team building is something like 3.48, yet he's in the main body of the team. It's like Billy Forsberg at Belle Vue - a victim of the preposterous team building of the promoter. And Charles Wright doesn't have big brother to hold his hand anymore. John Branney's just not very good - an honest rider, who tries his heart out, but there's just minimal talent to go with it.
