Workington's new owner Keith Denham has voiced his concerns over the performance of certain members of the Workington team: www.timesandstar.co.uk/2.884/2.2012/2.935/2.1702/our_view/2.1704/2.1693/comets/1.78550The strange thing is, certain parts of the Workington fan base seem to be in disagreement with Denham's view - so, he's actually shattering the "rosy picture" they've painted. But, of course, he's right. With all due deference to paulco and his fellow Tigers, far harder tasks await the Comets than a visit to Ashfield. And it hard to see Workington's top order maintaining their current scoring for the whole season, so even if the tail picks up a bit, that's likely to be undone by less scoring from the heat leaders. Denham is absolutely right to point out that against teams such as King's Lynn, where Topinka and particularly Doolan (my tip to top the PL averages this season) will be more than a match for Nermark, Stonehewer and Nieminen.

As long as they keep winning at home , then the majority of Barbarians will get drunk on the back straight quite content . Unfortunately there are one or two teams out there who are more than capable of getting 3-3s against the heat-leaders and pouncing against the dross in heats 2,8 and 14 . Once home struggles start that's when the shit will hit the fan .

It is perhaps worth pointing out that King's Lynn visit Derwent Park in a couple of weeks. In fact, the week before the heathen Tigers visit.

Well, this time Mr Denham is telling it like it isn't: www.newsandstar.co.uk/sport/active/1.228901I don't know how he can claim that Workington have a better side than Berwick - in Messrs Wright, Reima and Branney they have three of the worst riders in the league. And Stonehewer is a busted flush; more often an embarrassment than an inspiration these days.

Workington are nowhere close to even being a team at the moment, take away Nermark and Nieminen and they have not at lot, Stonehewer is a pale shadow of the dizzy heights of a GP star and they cannot expect miracles from Wright and Haines. Branney? As for Denham's hype over Franchetti, i think he is trying to compensate for the Comets getting beat on Monday night.

I rather think he might be looking to steam in and sign Franchetti for next season.

I rather think he might be looking to steam in and sign Franchetti for next season. Well, he'll need someone to replace Nieminen.
