It seems that the "Grand Monarch" has really gone to town with Workington's Carl Stonehewer, fining him a grand total of £350 in two Workington meetings that he's refereed: www.timesandstar.co.uk/2.1709/2.1894/2.1702/jane_loughran/2.1693/town_rl/2.1893/2.1712/1.78208I was at the Berwick meeting and Stonehewer deserved punishment for moving at the start, so he should have no complaints about that. And having seen a photograph of the gesture towards Dicken, I don't think he can have too many complaints about that either. As for Ian Thomas' comments about the size of the fine in the Dicken incident being the same as if he'd decked the Glasgow rider, I would merely point out that I would say physical violence should be punished far more severely than a £300 fine. To me, Stonehewer just wants everything his own way these days - he's no longer the force he once was, but expects to be allowed to throw his not inconsiderable bulk around, while opponents treat him, the ex-GP star, with kid gloves. Not going to happen, young fellow, better get used to it.

There was plenty of evidence last year to suggest Stoney was on the downward spiral . Age and injuries seemingly catching up with him . Let's examine his gripe about his treatment on Sunday . As has been well-documented , it's supposed to be a family sport and a grown man standing gesturing like that in front of women and weans is pretty pathetic . If he was stood in the middle of Sauchihall Street doing that , the polis would have him away . But in the lead-up to his bizaare outburst , was it the Messiah or Trent or even Robert Ksiezak he was tangling with when he came off - no it was Lee Dicken ;D Actually he should have no gripe with the Grand Monarch , because i had a good view of the incident and Stoney dropped it to get a rerun . Because it's a well-known fact the Grand Monarch only excludes Tigers riders in first bend incidents . Ok there was Carl Wilkinson in 2006 at Newport , but that was the exception . So coming off second best in dicing with Lee Dicken's backside which followed on from a tapes to flag defeat by an eighteen year old riding in his 5th meeting should be a tad worrying for the Comets .

Phew . As long as she's not doing her knitting or watching Eastenders in the box when Desperate Deek is scattering all before him on the first bend .

Pardon me for being thick, but who is/are Grand Monarch and Dangerous Deek? The "Grand Monarch" is the referee Jim McGregor, so called because of allegedly favouring Edinburgh over Glasgow when he's officiating in Heathen derbies. "Desperate Deek" is the Edinburgh captain Derek ("Deek" in heathen slang) Sneddon, who has something of a reputation for wiping out Glasgow riders during Heathen derbies. Naturally enough, according to Glasgow folk, the Grand Monarch often allows Desperate Deek to get away with it.
